MONDAIN’S DIARY
(excerpted – How I got the Gem Of Immortality)
Minax and I lived on an island in those days. We were young and in love and very happy. While I busied myself with research, Minax spent her days doing Minax things to small furry creatures.
My research centered on the strange lights that flickered offshore. They were very bright at night and sometimes blood would swell up into the sea from beneath the dancing lights. Minax discovered this first.
I found her one moony night, keening and gibbering madly on the beach, naked and covered in the blood of the sea. Only by letting her suck my neck could I sooth her long enough to carry her to the water trough and bathe her.
I determined to discover for myself what lay in those depths. And, with the help of my trusty island pigmy assistant, Baldric, I build a diving chamber. We loaded it onto a small boat and we paddled one evening to the spot where the lights came out at night.
As those devilish lights began hopping about the surface, I crammed Baldric into the chamber and lowered him by rope into the bleeding sea. Although he lacked an air supply, Baldric had confidence in my ability to decipher his tugs on the rope. The mere frantic I ignored, but truly convulsive tugs meant his skin was turning blue and I would haul him up, much to his relief, for a wheezy debriefing.
Soon, a picture emerged of a sunken ship resting on the bottom. Before poor Baldric went into convulsions, I learned that the prowl of that ship was adorned by a human skull pouring blood from its eyes!
Well, that settled it. Baldric would have to go down one more time and get that skull. Of course, I was deeply concerned about Baldric. The way he was flopping around now, he could damage that skull while retrieving it. But we scientists must take risks so, shouting my instructions, I plopped him in one last time and prayed for the skull’s deliverance.
And he did it! Baldric got the skull! He never was quite right after this but he had always been a bit twitchy to begin with. And I had the skull!
I immediately saw the key clenched in the teeth of the skull. I pried the key loose and read the inscription on its side, “Pacemaker.” This key would unlock my dad’s pacemaker! I could get the Gem Of Immortality that powered Dad’s pacemaker! Oh! WoW! Was I excited!
And well, you know the rest of the story.

Warning: rumors of Incognito swooning injuries have been reported. One was about a PvP fight. A person named Guest posted on a thread, “His attack was mighty and he drove me off the bridge.” Prepare for more battles, shenanigans and sarcastic but hilarious comments.
Why is Incognito getting an interview? Because, as the report says, he is “Sheer awesomeness!”

Please join us on April 29th, 2014 at 7:00pm in the EM Hall in Britain as we try to recover the stolen loot. (This is a Thievery event – Stealing skill will be needed).

On Saturday, 10th May at 3pm Eastern, the representatives of the King’s Council will be holding a shard public auction in order to give the people of Siege an opportunity to trade goods, promote shard interaction, and raise money for town treasuries. If successful, the event could become a biannual event at the start of each governorship term of office (or conceivably even twice per term). This thread is intended to give advance notice of the auction; further details and the official list of lots for sale will come in May.

Venue & auctioneer

The auction will take place at Gilfane Arena and I will be acting as auctioneer. Kattasrophe is working as chief assistant and will be organizing complementary activities.

Commission & donations

The auctioneer will levy a charge of 5% on all lots sold and the money so raised [the “Town Fund”] will be split equally between the seven towns involved (Jhelom, Minoc, Moonglow, New Magincia, Skara Brae, Trinsic, Vesper). If any member of the public wishes to contribute further, then they are welcome to make additional contributions in four possible ways:

a) By donating an item(s) entirely to the Town Fund, in which case 100% of the auction sale price will go into the fund.

b) By donating an item(s) to ONE particular town, in which case the remaining 95% of the sale price will go directly to the specified town.

c) By donating an item to York’s new player vendor subsidy program, in which case the remaining 95% of the sale price will go directly to this cause.

d) By donating a lump some of cash to the Town Fund or to specified town(s). This is no different than giving cash directly to the town heralds, except that your donation will appear in the official accounts and will therefore be recorded for posterity.

Reserve Price

Items submitted for sale may be assigned a minimum price that the seller is willing to accept, although items may be rejected if the auctioneer views the reserve as unreasonably high and unlikely to lead to a sale.

Advanced bids

To aid those unable to attend the live event or find a suitable proxy, the auctioneer will take private bids in advance of the sale. Further details on this service will be posted nearer the event.

Submitting items for sale

To raise interest and awareness for the auction, the public is encouraged to announce items for sale as soon as possible. However, as the auction house will not be taking receipt of goods until May, anything so announced/listed is not final and could be withdrawn by the seller.

To submit your items, PM me here. Be sure to include any reserve prices you wish to assign the goods, although these could be changed later. All items are presumed to be for the benefit of the seller unless otherwise stated. If you wish to donate the entire proceeds of an item to one of the causes (Town Fund, individual town, subsidy program), please clearly state this. Items donated to a cause will state the name of the donor unless anonymity is specifically requested. General items for sale will not list the name of the seller unless it is necessary to do so.

If you are intending to sell low-priced items, please try and group them together where possible. What constitutes a “low price” is unclear at this point. Once official submissions are taken in May, we should have a better idea of the amount of items that are likely to be for sale and what to set the minimum requirements at.

Official accounts

A record of sale prices and all monies raised will be published after the auction. The auctioneer will deposit the money raised for each town directly with the heralds in the presence of Kattasrophe and/or another creditable witness.

Confidentiality & liability

All reserve prices, advance bids and other privileged information from sellers will be kept in confidence by the auctioneer except in the event of a new auctioneer having to be appointed due to illness or force majeure.

Final responsibility for items being sold, monies raised thereon, and the conduct of the auction, lies with the auctioneer and not the members of the King’s Council.

If anyone can suggest an amusing name for this type of auction, “Townaid” or something, please do so.

GET ON THE GYPSY WAGON!

There has been much talk on Stratics about the creation of the Gypsy Wagon. Two years ago, a person by the name of Old Gypsy on her Stratics account came up with the idea herself.
This is the starting of it. On June 17, 2012, Old Gypsy said, “OK, it is after 2:AM and the idea may be the result of sleep deprivation, but I’m posting it anyway. Since we already have Gypsy Wagons in UO (and they have a very small footprint) I think it would be a really nice optional addition for players. To keep it from being a problem for anyone, there would have to be restrictions.” This is only one paragraph of her remarkable idea that sparked the interest of over 3,000 and there is surely many more to come.
What does this have to do with anything? You might say we need to show people what we think of this amazing idea. There are already 214 messages on the page. Let’s show them how much we care!

“This is based on the famous Boot Hill in Tombstone, Arizona,” Norman Bates says as he points to a grave stone with the name, ‘Lester Moore’ on it. “I am the caretaker here. My name is Norman Bates. All of the residents are well cared for. Their plots get moved every week. I put fresh flowers on the grave if the relatives pay for it. I was reading about the real one and thought it would be nice if we had one of our own.”
I asked the question, “Do all Siege players have a grave?”

MORGAN IRONFIST NEWS

I was stealthing along in Shame towards the spawn ever so slowly…. I am not much of a fan of that place… but then, something caught my eye. It was the Governor of New Magincia, Morgan Ironfist! I was silent as a mouse, not making a peep, for he already had the Boss up and was killing it. I silently gasped at what he did next. He yelled at the top of his lungs, “WHAAHAAA! NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW!”
Oh, but surely that was a lie. I was there! I blinked rapidly and thought for a moment, as all the gold began to spawn. I began to wonder. Curiosity struck and I didn’t know what to do. Was he hiding the city treasury in Shame? *Gasp!*
This could be terrible. I watched a bit longer, too terrified to say anything. Within a moment, I took myself to Britain and said not a word.
