[EM Event] Is Dinner Supposed to Walk off?

[EM Event] Is Dinner Supposed To Walk Off?

Faine walked in the back door, kicked off her shoes and flopped in the chair huffing in annoyance. She still couldn’t believe Fio had banned her from the kitchen. Just because of one or two little fires; just nuisances really. Heck, the fire department had only had to be called on one and even then the soot stains painted right over once the wall was rebuilt. Really, they’d needed a new stove anyway and even Fio had to admit the kitchen looked better in the new design.

It truly wasn’t that Faine couldn’t cook when she put her mind to it. She just tended to get distracted and forget to check whatever was cooking until smoke started drifting out of the oven. She didn’t understand why Fio wouldn’t even let her at least help prepare the food for cooking. What was so difficult about peeling potatoes? Simply because the one time she’d cut the end of her finger and they got delayed visiting the EM Healer to get patched up…

Faine grinned to herself, forgetting to be annoyed for a moment. She just knew her surprise for Christmas dinner would work out wonderfully. When Fio had told her to find something to keep herself amused, Faine had headed straight to Yew to visit Donal the Monk’s library. Sure, Donal had had the little incident with the Mutant Christmas trees a couple of years ago but Faine had heard that he’d discovered a new concoction that actually made it possible to cook hams without glazing them during cooking. The pigs ate a special mixture for several weeks and, once butchered, the hams self glazed as they cooked. The key was taking time to let the pigs fully become infused with the basting formula. Faine knew this was just the ticket for Christmas so she’d whipped up a batch and had put the pigs away in a special pen to fatten up and surprise Fio in a few weeks.

Faine was so busy mulling over meals and hams that it took quite a while for her to realize that the delicious aroma she smelled wafting from the kitchen smelled suspiciously like ham. Cautiously rising from her chair and tiptoeing to the kitchen door she opened it just a crack and saw Fio bent down checking something in the oven.

“Ummmm, Fio,” Faine said tentatively. “That doesn’t smell like turkey.”

Fio straightened up and grinned at Faine, “Nope, I decided that we’d have ham this time instead of turkey. With all the mutant turkeys running around I just wasn’t convinced the meat would be edible. The ham seemed like a much better alternative and I found these nice fat pigs in Yew just wandering around. I thought we’d try it!”

“Yew?” Faine squeaked, “You found them in Yew. Uh, where exactly?”

“Faine, you look a little pale. Are you ok? I found them out near one of the old sheeps pens,” Fio said as she looked at the Faine with concern.

“Fio…I think…well…there’s something you should probably know,” Faine struggled to get out.

Before she could say another word, a strange sound started coming from the oven and the whole kitchen started shaking. As Faine and Fio watched in horror, the door to the oven burst open and out ran a fully basted walking mutant hamhock.

“Oh no, Faine, what did you do?” Fio asked in horror.

“Well,” Faine said, looking sheepish, “maybe we can discuss that later? I think we might need some help from the citizens.”

Your help is requested on Thursday, December 1st at 6 p.m. PST/9 p.m. EST to round up any mutant hamhocks before true damage occurs. Please meet Fio and Faine at the Counselor’s Guild in West Britain.

[EM Event] Building the Bakery

November 18, 2011 By: Larisa Category: Origin News

Rosemerry was thrilled when last we spoke…she was given her own building in East Britian to set up her bakery!

Rosemerry resided in Britian years ago, cooking for Lord British himself, and returned to her home a few months ago.

Once she got over the excitment of once again being able to bake and cook in her own place, she called upon the citizens of Origin to help realize her dreams, and help furnish her new shop.

This evening Origin gathered at the site of her new bakery, envisioning the warmth and feel of this place that Rosemerry will gladly call home.

Starting with a fresh template, Origin’s crafters were put to the task of helping her furnish the shop.

With the vision of Miyo, one of Origin’s citizens, our crafters quickly got to work, making tables, chairs and other necessities that would bring Rosemerry’s Bake Shop to life.

After several hours, we could see that Rosemerry was getting tired, and decided to stop for the evening and let her rest, while Origin continued to gather the supplies she would need for opening day.

As we said goodnight to Rosemerry, we could feel the warmth of the shop, and the happiness that she felt as she wandered into the back room and closed the door. One could almost smell the wonderful pastries and desserts that would soon fill this place, and hear the sounds of Origin coming together and enjoying what Rosemerry had to offer.

Sleep well, dear Rosemerry…soon you will have your dream realized, and Origin will always be there to help.

Rosemerry felt like a giddy little school girl as she went over the plans sent in for her shop. Someone had finally sent in a design and she was loving it more and more. Miyo had sent in such a creative design. But she knew she needed help to gather all of the items required to make this design a reality.

So please bring all of your crafters to Rosemerry’s new shop and help her make her design a reality for her. (please note the picture below to get an idea of what will be needed)

Friday Nov 18th at 6pm PST (9pm est)

Thanks to Miyo for creating such a fantastic design and thanks to Yurina of (HUB) for sending in Miyo’s design!!

[EM Event]Asurti’s Spectacles
Posted on November 9, 2011 by EMFio

Asurti sat back after the long and insane fight he had just witnessed to stop the Grim Reaper from crossing over to the living plane. “How in Sosaria had that happened?” he wondered to himself. He has read that story to himself… to HIMSELF. The story weaving isn’t supposed to work like that. It’s only suppose to work when read aloud and with much concentration to bring the story to life. This was all wrong.

He took off his glasses and threw them on the table and sighed heavily. He buried his face in his hands and tried to think. Pulling his hands away slowly to rub his temples as he thought.

As he massaged his temples he felt where his glasses has left a slight impression, nothing new to anyone that has ever worn glasses. But this made Asurti stop and think in a different direction.

His glasses… he looked at his glasses laying on the table.

Asurti shook his head. “Couldn’t be… could it?” He went to the cupboard to get his old pair of glasses out, so he could see at least a bit better. He began to examine the glasses on the table. Glasses that his brother had helped him get a few months ago.

Asurti turned and grabbed paper and quill and began writing an urgent message to Taryn Sullivan.

Taryn,

I may have a theory as to why my stories have gotten so far off track. I’d like your help to test that theory. Please meet me at the First Bank of Britain and bring anyone willing to help. Hopefully this story goes as planned and it will be a more enjoyable experience for everyone.

Regards,
Asurti

So please join Taryn Sullivan and Asurti the Storyteller at the First Bank of Britain (aka WBB) on Friday, Nov 11th, 2011 at 6 pm pst (9 pm est)

[EM Event] Halloween 2011~A night to remember

November 07, 2011 By: Larisa Category: Origin News

Once Origin had saved Princess Buttercup and the citizens went home to rest, Asurti went home, determined to figure out what was going on, and how his brother was involved in all of this.

Unbeknownst to us all, while we were all resting from the days battle, Asurti was already preparing for his next story telling session. As he gently passed his hands across the worn, familiar books on his shelves, his mind was spinning with the information he had garnered earlier that evening, and he was determined to find a story that would not end up like the last one did.

Pulling a familiar book from the shelf, he flipped through it, reading a few pages to himself before shaking his head and returning the book. *Though I do love this story, I know this one will turn out badly, I must find something…tamer* he thought to himself.

As he was closing the pages of the book, far away in Moonglow strange things started happening, and the citizens there were growing wary. Disturbing sounds and eerie voices were heard in the darkness of night, keeping the people inside their homes, cautious of what evils lurked in the shadows, while during the day, the town took on a ghoulish look, dying trees and spiderwebs seemed to appear overnight.

Soon Origin got the call…Taryn requested everyone to meet her at the Counselor’s Hall in West Britian to discuss a *Possible dire developing situation*

As soon as we were all gathered, Taryn got quickly to the point..the situation was desperate.

*There is something happening in Moonglow..and…even though it sounds crazy, it reminds me of…a story I used to read as a child…there is..a rift..opening up in the middle of the town…*

At this point, Asurti steps up and quietly clears his throat *Perhaps I can be of some assistance..*

Taryn blinked *I’m sorry..do I know you?*

Asurti introduced himself and told her of his talent of Story Weaving *The story of which you speak..the one about the Grim Reaper attempting to force his way out of the underworld…I was reading that very story TO MYSELF last night…I had no idea this would happen*

Taryn looked at him closely *You mean to tell me that this is your fault?*

Asurti blinked and hurridly shook his head *no no you misunderstand.my talent is bringing the stories I read outloud to life…in a good way! But recently…my stories have been twisting into this…* ,He sighs heavily, *I truly am sorry..but maybe I can help*

*Very well* Taryn said sharply* But we must hurry, the situation in Moonglow is dire, and it worsens by the moment. If everyone is prepared to go….*she quickly casts a gating spell and we all go through…

Upon entering Moonglow, we saw what appeared to be a small red rift pulsating in the middle of the open field. *This is the rift into the underworld…The Grim Reaper is trying to force his way into our world. IF that happens, all is lost…but the only way to close it, is to do it from HIS side. In order to do that, I need to make the rift bigger so we can get through…this is very dangerous. Once we are in HIS world, we will be attacked by his minions. Defeat them all to summon The Grim Reaper himself..but be warned…it will not be easy.*

Taryn casts a spell to open the rift

Once the rift was large enough, we all stepped through..into a world of death and chaos. Gravestones littered the ground, spiderwebs hung from trees..blood was dripping from everywhere and the sounds of shreaks and moans came from the dozens of Minions inhabiting this…dark Moonglow.

After what seemed many hours, the last of the Grim Reapers minions had been defeated…but the battle was not yet over…The Grim Reaper himself laughed manically, fire shot from his hands and fields of fire surrounded the field we all stood in.

Once again we battled, though it was not easy. During the battle he would give out an ear-piercing howl, freezing everyone in place and blinding us with brilliant white light.

After many deaths, the Grim Reaper finally was laid to his eternal rest, and Taryn called everyone together. If this was in fact based on the story she read as a child…she wanted to see if what she’d read about was true.

We all gathered in the middle of the Hedge Maze…a wooden block sat in the middle, a bloody axe covered with blood lay upon it..and standing tall next to it..a totem.

*Citizens of Origin…you have fought brave and hard yet again…and have prevailed over yet another evil, this one far worse then any we’ve seen. In the story, the brave warriors were rewarded for thier selfless acts by touching a powerful totem that appeared in the courtyard where the warriors fought.* Looking at the tall totem standing beside her, she smiled *I have a feeling this one will do the same…so waste no more time…brave warriors! Collect your spoils!*

Tired, bleeding and hungry, we each one by one walked up and touched the totem. Warmth spread through us and in each of our hands appeared a light…shining with brilliance.

*Go home, brave ones, and rest..for you deserve it. And thank you again for defending your home. You are all heros.*

[EM Fiction]Kicked out

Posted on October 31, 2011 by EMFio

Asurti looked at the letter the messenger had just delivered to him….

Asurti,

While at first I thought you holding your storytelling in my tavern was a brilliant idea, it has become too much of a hindrance upon my establishment. I am spending entirely too much time and too much money repairing and cleaning up after your story telling gatherings. That crazy princess was the last straw. As such, I would inform you as of this moment forth you are no longer welcome at the Cat’s Lair Tavern.

Megan, the proprietor of the Cat’s Lair

“Well I can’t say as I blame her really,” Asurti thought to himself as he handed the messenger a gold bit and nodded to dismiss him.

[EM Event]A Bump in the Night

[EM Event]A Bump in the Night

Taryn pulled her cloak around her a bit more tightly and shivered a bit as she took a deep breath of the crisp autumn air. She grinned as she thought of the hot apple cider most likely waiting at the Farmer’s Market. Maybe she’d pick up a few supplies for Rosemerry while she was at it. True, Donal’s list of items he wanted from Aegis’ Reagent Shop was impressive but surely she could fit in a few things extra.

Upon reaching town, Taryn’s first stop was the bank which also doubled as the Tinker’s Guild. For some reason Donal wanted some new knives and the cauldron he’d been using has had an unfortunate accident that resulted in the entire bottom being burned out. She still wasn’t quite sure how that happened but, knowing Donal as she did, Taryn decided it was probably better not to ask.

Nodding to the others gathered in the building, Taryn spied Karisa the Guildmistress near the back and headed that way. She briefly thought to herself that something seemed a bit strange compared to the usual bustle of activity and chatter but quickly dismissed it as she rummaged for the list of items she needed.

“Hi Karisa, seems Donal has need of yet more cauldrons and utensils. I swear I think the man eats them,” Taryn said smiling at Karisa and handing her the list.

Karisa’s hand was noticeably shaking as she took the list and looked it over. Her voice almost trembled as she said, “I think we can have this filled by tomorrow if we have the materials. I’ll…I’ll have to check.”

Taryn stopped Karisa as she made to turn to the shelves and looked at her with concern, noticing the dark circles under the other woman’s eyes for the first time, “Karisa, what’s wrong? Talk to me. The list can wait.”

Karisa looked uncertain for a moment but then it was as if the floodgates opened, as though she’d been waiting for someone to unburden herself to.

“Taryn, I think we are all going crazy. During the day, things are fine but as soon as the sun goes down there are all these sounds – horrible sounds – bumps, clangs, moans, screams. All night long this goes on. No one can sleep but when we look outside, there is nothing to be seen. A few days ago a weird field appeared and last night blood appeared on the black field. Spider webs are appearing all over town, trees are dying. Odd things but nothing that anyone can say is the cause of all this. No one can seem to find the cause of the strange sounds and each night they get worse.”

While this was certainly not what Taryn expected to hear, she found that her curiosity was peaked. She convinced Karisa to show her the strange field and proceeded to examine it. Something niggled in the back of Taryn’s mind as she looked at the strange glowing field covered in blood. But what she was thinking was only a legend. Surely not possible. What other explanation could there be though?

“Karisa, I have to talk to Donal, quickly. I’ll return as soon as I can. In the meantime, please, spread the word that everyone needs to stay indoors at night until I can get the information I need and reinforcements.” Taryn took one last look at the pulsing stasis field and hoped there would be time to do what needed to be done. She couldn’t help but wonder how in the world this had come to be. It was a myth, a story, right? Then how on earth was it standing here in front of her? She hurried to find Donal and prayed she was wrong.
