Best Shot In The Realm – February 2012

Many archers gathered at the fairgrounds for the monthly Best Shot in the Realm last Saturday night, hosted by Misfits of Society. The weather was fair and there were low winds and and as always the spirits were high at the start of the evening. A lucky number of 13 archers registered for their chance to walk away with the 1 million gold prize and an engraved bow deeming the recipient “Champion, Best Shot in the Realm, February 2012.”

The rules were read by Toni Fierce and Round 1 of the contest got underway. James, Aerowyn Faeryn, Grey Eagle, Nemesis, TOBY (last month’s champion), Llama, Richard Lionhart, Bucko, Ahebban, Debi, Claudia, Handalf and Aleecia were called up by two’s to take their best shots. Grey Eagle, Handalf, Debi and Aleecia were the night’s first casualties, with scores of 30, 22, 30 and 57, respectively.

The judges quickly realized the buttes must still be “off” because Debi and Grey Eagle are legendary archers. Grey Eagle has even been known to shoot apples off the heads of many of his companions with nary a fatality!

Lady EM Godiva appeared suddenly like an angel, accessed the situation, and offered two more buttes in front of the existing ones. Again the archers were called up in pairs of two and did their best to get a robin hood, something they were all more than capable of. Round 2’s casualties included James, Nemesis, Llama and Richard Lionhart. It seems the new buttes didn’t work any better than the original buttes, in spite of the efforts of our angel.

Round 3 saw Aerowyn Faeryn, TOBY, Bucko and Ahebban prepared to give their best effort to walk away with the night’s prize. A score of 150 was required to move to Round 4. The archers were called up to shoot one by one. Aerowyn Faeryn took her best shot, but this legendary archer finished with a score of 30! The crowd gasped in shock and offered their heartfelt consolation to Aerowyn. Next up was TOBY, January’s winner, who finished his turn with a score of 160, enough to go to Round 4, if there would be one. Next up was Bucko, who gave his best effort, but finished with a score of 70. Ahebban followed Bucko’s lead and also ended with a 70.

Congratulations TOBY on winning the February 2012 Best Shot In The Realm!

Violent Tremors Shatter the Kingdom of Dawn
WarderDragon

A series of violent tremors have shattered the once tranquil Kingdom of Dawn.

The earthquake struck sometime after midnight. Trees were uprooted. Walls collapsed. Buildings that had long stood the test of time collapsed inward on sleeping citizens. Those outdoors at the time were swept out to sea as a massive swell emerged from the Bay.

High Senator Fern and the Order of the Red Ankh [R*A] has been dispatched to the Kingdom. Aid also comes from the Sovereign Order of Queen Shieba [QSA] and the New Magincian Trading Co. [NMTC]

The dead are still being recovered from the ruins.

Grand Duchess WildStar – co-regent and commander of Dawn’s Magi – has vowed to rebuild the northern kingdom stronger and more glorious than before.

[EM / RP News] Impulse Control: A Study

Impulse Control: A Study
Ryan the Alchemist

Fiction from last nights event.

Creating an Impulse Control Disorder can be done in a variety of ways. The easiest and, arguably, the most successful way is through manipulation of the frontal lobe. This can be accomplished with surgery, magical or medical, though there are many risks associated with either. Ideal subjects can be both difficult to obtain and dispose of, so care should be taken in preventing incapacitation or an untimely demise.

To achieve nearly identical results without the hindrances of medical maintenance and recovery time, one simply needs to inject the subject with a drug that manipulates the frontal lobe chemically, rather than physically. Any long term effects are not a concern, due to the short life expectancy of the aforementioned subjects. Additionally, the reported side effects of most drugs work favorably in conjunction with Impulse Control Disorders.

[RP News] Between a rock and a Taliesin

February 24, 2012 By: Bryelle Vaughn Category: Baja News, Baja Roleplaying & Event Alliance

Bare feet tread lightly across the abyssal dock. Smiling to the dolphin as it flipped and twisted in the water she made her way across the boards. Cecilie was generally fashionably late for appointments. As the muses would have it, she was the early one this time. Her skirt drifted and bounced as she walked. It wasn’t until she turned to gaze back down to the entrance that she realized someone was watching her. Placing a hand over her eyes to block out the midday glare, she blinked. Heavily robed, the figure whom she guessed to be Taliesin, seemed impending. That was.. until she took note of the thin arms jutting out from the sleeves. His steps were purposeful but not heavy. The air about him seemed to hum with something just beyond her tangible reach and yet the closer he got, the friendlier the smile.

“Taliesin?”

“Cecilie?” He tilted his head, the corner of his mouth upturning into a crook.

If it was one that struck her immediately it was that he was a contradiction in terms. Everything he seemed to be and not at all.

“Exactly what -is- your job function?”

“I go where my Master cannot.” He laughed lightly adding a sparkle to his eyes. The expression on his face was meant to be placating.

“You mean Mr. SuperKen?”  Pulling out her quill and piece of parchment she plopped down unceremoniously with her tush on the dock and her legs crossed. He stood over her, observing for a moment. Nodding slowly, he lowered himself to her level.

“My employer is easily recognized and there are many…” He paused for a moment considering his words. “Pitfalls that come with a familiar name and face. I act as an envoy.”

“And a gopher, do you not?” Turning her bright blue eyes up to his.

“I do a great many things for him. I started out as a bard.”

“As in playing music, singing, the whole bit?”
“Aye. There were many praises to give for My Lord.” A smile twitched across his face then, lighting up his somber yet playful eyes only adding to the contradiction that was Taliesin.

“I have yet to hear you sing.”

“I rarely do it these days. I have taken to playing with my wand now that the Exalted has no use for songs.”

“Is it a big wand?”

“See for yourself!”

Taliesin, true to his word, withdrew a brilliantly colored staff both bejeweled and practical. Cecilie, could certainly see why it was so favored.

“Have you had to demonstrate its use for your Lord?”

“Aye. He requires many performances. It makes up for the lack of music.”

“And what of you? This life certainly doesn’t lend itself to settling down. You are not married then correct?”

“No, I’m afraid I’ve never found the time. Eventually his Highness will get bored with the wand and wish me to move on. But ever present is my traveling. That is my main function.”

“Yes, I’ve seen you at many of the political functions in his stead.”

Picking up her parchment, Cecilie rose from her seated position and thanked him for his time. “I reserve the right to ask additional questions later.”

Grinning, he tilted his head as if the invite were with wide open arms. “I look forward to it.”

[RP News] Silent Sojourn – Dying for Love.

Silent Sojourn: Dying for Love
WarderDragon

Word on the street is a marriage is coming, between Claudia Drusilla of Hearthfire, and the long lost brother of Elladan.

On Tuesday, people gathered at the Eternal Flame of Aino, to honor the fallen Uba Ptah Mun, whom some claim was murdered in cold blood at the hands of the vicious Dante of Magincia, and others who have fallen in the recent past. Leading the Silent Sojourn through the land, across the portal at the EM Hall and into Malas, Claudia and her retinue arrived at last to the Temple of Hearthfire, where she delivered a rousing speech “…to honor lost family and friends, and to allow our flames to dry your tears in the rapture of love.”

At this point, she led the procession in a tour through the recently reconstructed city, and announced her betrothal to the twin of Elladan.

I met this twin, called Elrohir, as I visited Luna earlier this week. Dressed in the accoutrements of a Ranger, and carrying an Elven Bow, he smelled of the outdoors, and could have passed for fraternal sibling if he wanted. He claims to have recently arrived by boat, having been separated from Elladan for decades. He seemed curious about his betrothed, and inquired if I knew her, to which I smirked, and replied I did.

Of Pirates and Hookers: Part 2

We found her, much to no ones surprise, sunbathing in Magincia, clutching an empty rum bottle to her more than ample bosom. Magincians. Informing her that we needed to know the whereabouts of a band of Pirates sailing up and down the rivers of Ilshenar, she stumbled to her feet and prompted us to follow her.

When we arrived at her lair, a small alcove nestled in the mountains near Mistas, she turned, and revealed that she was in fact the one responsible for the raids. After a series of threats, she whistled, and called upon her man Brutus, an ogre of a man who spat fire at his opponents. (Also rumored to be related to Agostino.) After a few moments of battle, the beast was subdued, leaving his domina trapped and without means of escape.

Approaching her, we extracted a promise. Net set foot within Compassion Vale again, and we wouldn’t be forced to hunt her down and extract it from her flesh. She agreed.

We meet again this Thursday, at 8:00 PM PST / 11:00 EST, to hunt down Fortuno’s sister, and perhaps discover the whereabouts of our missing metallurgist.

Of Pirates and Hookers: Part 1.
WarderDragon

Tonight we gathered at the Lecture Hall of Northern Britain, to continue our search for the missing Ren.

For those who missed Thursdays Class, the Healer of Vesper bid us go in search of a former student of hers, a metallurgist whose talents she would need for a coming experiment. We traveled to the Warriors Bounty in J’helom, where we discovered his sister, Machin, and a journal. (Copies of this journal have been discovered on the bodies of anarchists and radicals who have been violently protesting in Valoria, adding a sinister undertone to an already unfolding mystery.)

Click the image to open in full size.

The Journal’s last entries record how Ren, a Blacksmith of some renown, had been commissioned a set of 50 Platemail suits. Enough armor to fund a small army. His patron, a taciturn and unnamed man he refers to as “Sir,” chose to remain with Ren and his sibling until the order was complete. The man was cold, callous, and when the neighboring forge suffered as a result of an arson attack, he demanded Ren lock the shop and not leave it until the order was complete.

When it was completed, Sir disappeared. And so did our metallurgist.

Hoping to find clues elsewhere, we visited the neighboring Armory, and met a Venessa, who informed us that the man who had died in the arson was none other than Fortuno, a friend and apprentice of Ren, who had also been a Gypsy, and her paramour. She mentioned that Fortuno had come from the land of Ilshenar, the Gypsies of Compassion Vale, and that we might find more about Ren there.

We arrived there to discover an old man, who did not take kindly to the presence of Silverbrook and Peter Tarrant. He revealed himself the father of Fortuno, and railed against the outsiders that had took his son from him. Proserpina wanted to skin him. Fern wanted to seduce him…

…It was not until the arrival of Lance Marshal, dressed in the gleaming armor of his order, that the Gypsy calmed and offered a bargain. He would offer us the location of Fortuno’s sister, a soothsayer and oracle who might know the location of the missing Ren, if we would do him this one favor: Put an end to the Pirate’s that had been raiding the Gypsy Camp.

We returned to the Healer, who told us to rest. On Saturday, we would gather again, and she would lead to Penny the Pirate Wench, a woman famous for her sharp words, dominance over men, and hook for a hand.

Get it? Hooker. Hahaha! I amuse myself.
