Rough Seas of Time: The Tale of Leeward and Eleutheria
Magdalena (Contributions by Lindae, Wildstar, Circe and WarderDragon)

She checked her reflection in the looking glass for the hundredth time that morning and carefully applied the pale color to her lips. She turned to go and then turned back, scowling. Sweeping up a handful of wavy tresses, she pinned them back with a delicate silver comb and smiled. Finally satisfied, she picked up the basket and stepped out into the cool Autumn air.

“You made good time Captain, ” the elder man said clapping him on the back. “Inside for a celebratory drink, eh?” The last of the crates were being unloaded on the dock as they both turned and headed into the hall. Drinks first and formalities later, that was how Lord Van Cort conducted business. The Captain looked back over his shoulder eyes quickly scanning all the stoney arches over the water and followed the merchant inside.

Her heels made sharp clicks on the stone pavers as she hurried along, more at a half-run than a walk, over the bridges leading to The Fisherman’s Guild. Eleutheria paused near some huge casks of brandy to catch her breath. She smoothed her skirts and exhaled slowly before she pushed the door open and walked inside.

“There she is! My Princess Ellie!” her father’s voice boomed.

“Daaaddy, ” she said exasperated, rolling her eyes and blushing deeply, “I’m eighteen now.”

“And you’ll always be my princess, ” he responded laughing loudly. “Come, sit!”

The deep blush was not on account of the nickname. Eleutheria was looking past her father at him — Captain Leeward. Her heart pounded so loud in her chest that she thought everyone there must be able to hear it. She felt the color rise in her cheeks again as he smiled warmly at her. A smile that made her knees go weak.

Her father stood, pushing his chair back as he rose. “Keep the Captain company while I go and tend to the manifests. Manifests and paperwork, my day is never done. I’ll see you tonight at dinner before you set sail, Captain.” He gave her a quick peck on the cheek and was out the door barking orders and hurrying people along.

Eleutheria walked over and placed the basket before him. “Buns and honey-butter,” she said shyly.

His crystal blue eyes did not leave hers as he took her hand and gently kissed it. “You know I love your buns.” He rose never letting go of her hand. “Walk with me,” he said, leading her to the door.

They pushed past the men milling about and headed towards one of the many bridges of Vesper. Eleutheria linked her arm in his and they walked at a leisurely pace over the cobbled ways, until he stopped midway on one and faced her. “I have something for you, ” he said, and gently pulled a small bundled piece of silk from his pocket and placed it in her hand.

She opened it with care and there nestled in the silk was a delicate emerald ring. She looked up at him, “I..I can’t accept this. It’s beautiful, but too dear a gift for a birthday present.”

He brushed a strand of hair away from her face, “It’s not a birthday gift,” he said. “Be mine, always.”

* * *

“Absolutely not!” her father roared bringing his fist down hard on table, “I forbid it!” The silverware had just settled back when she began her protest and he slammed his hand down again. “You, ” he said, rounding on Captain Leeward, “You get out of my house now!” The servants along the wall shifted uncomfortably, the dinner having come to a an abrupt halt.
“I’ll not have you married to a.. a .. that sea-faring privateer! I’ll make you a good match when the time comes!”

“But Daddy…” she started and was cut off.

“Stethos, bring your sister to her room and wait until I come up there.” Her brother rose slowly, taking her by the arm.

“I love him! And I hate you and I will marry him, ” she was shouting. Her diatribe continued as she was hauled down the hall.

“And you,” barked Lord Van Cort turning to Leeward again, “I said leave my house! We are done in all business!”

The Captain took his coat from a half-cowering servant and calmly said, “As you wish.” He gave a slight bow and walked out of the merchant’s home into the night air. And as Leeward left, Lord Van Cort sank onto the chair burying his face in his hands and muttering to himself. The rest of the servants slowly slipped from the room.

* * *

Eleutheria threw herself onto the bed going over and over in her head when exactly it had all gone downhill. She had caught Leeward’s glance when she had been dragged down the hall. His face was all calm, yet something in his eyes and in his demeanor led her to believe that all would be right. She gently twirled the delicate emerald on her finger and wondered what he was planning. The door shot open and she sat up. “Pack two bags. You will be headed to the Abbey and the monks and nuns on the morrow!” Her father pulled it shut and she heard the key turn, locking her inside. She rose and starting packing, but not to go to Yew.

The Captain walked quickly over the bridges back to the docks, long angry strides that carried him back to his ship. “Privateer, ” he sneered. “Better match. Ha! He’ll marry her off to some old noble twice my age.” He looked towards the sky the wind was favorable this eve and the sun would set soon, so little time…

Eleutheria packed four bags, leaving two in full view of the door, the others tucked behind her bed. She pulled the blanket over the mound of pillows she had made and stood back. It did look like someone was sleeping there. She would wait twenty minutes more, to be sure her father was asleep, and then she made her escape. As she climbed out onto the ledge outside her window, she almost yelped when something brushed her hip. She looked down and there was Leeward on the trellis. Quickly and silently, he helped her from her perch, and then they made their way to the docks.

* * *

“What do you mean it will take a few days? Find me a ship and find one fast!” The groom kept bowing and backing out of the room. Once outside he took off running for The Majestic Boat again. There would be no ships arriving until the end of the week, that fact would not change, and neither would Lord Van Cort’s anger.

* * *

“Tell me again, ” she said, her arms around his waist. “Ah, it is small shack, one room but by the water. It suits a lonely sea captain like me, but we will need to find something better. I hear that Magincia is beautiful, beaches, a good-sized dock, ocean breezes.” She looked up, “Hovel or castle makes no difference if I have you.”

* * *

“You do realize that the chances of finding her are small, ” Stethos tried talking some sense into his father.

“I don’t care, ” Van Cort growled. “Your mother would spin in her grave if she knew I let Ellie marry that sea dog. I’ll hunt him down until your sister is returned to us.”

“Any idea where he lives?”

“No, but I have a good place to start, Fisherman’s Guild. Pack your bags, we leave in two days.”

The High Council of Britannia Celebrates Passing of the Britannian Charter.
WarderDragon

Last night the people of Britannia gathered to declare the ratification of their own Magna Carta: the Great Charter of Britannia.

Thus begins the 6 month term of the Britannian High Council.

The Councilors each offered words of thanks to the gathered. Fig directed his gratitude to the assistants – such as James and Claudia – who had been instrumental in the drafting process. Fern Goodfellow and Elladan promised a new era for the Britannian people in their own …unique fashion. And Charlotte Christianson indicated there would be positions within the new government for those who wish to serve her.

“Thank you all. I can assure you that we will do our best to serve you…
…and to make sure things continue to run as smoothly as possible.
For myself, I will have new positions open. So keep that in mind, if you seek to be in my service.”

As the event drew to a close the Captain rose and distributed copies of the document.

The Councilors themselves wasted no time. Alliances were made. Measures of defense were discussed. And whispers of intrigued echoed off the walls of Britain for the rest of the night.

[EM Fiction] A Letter of Invitation and a Letter of Acceptance.

A Letter of Invitation
Captain Jenkins

Dear Lady Christianson,

I would like to extend my condolences and sympathy in this time of great personal loss for you. While I never had a chance to get to know him personally, those who I admire always spoke highly of your father.

I believe that you were targeted due to your position as a representative of the Nobility in the High Council of Britannia. As such, it becomes necessary to spend greater effort towards maintaining your safety. Towards this goal, I would ask to move your residence within the sanctity and protection of Lord British’s castle. In fact, the erstwhile residence of Lady Aino Nystad, serving as the Town Guard depot these days, has sufficient space available. If it pleases you, it could serve as your place of residence while you serve on the High Council.

Sincerely,

Captain Jenkins

A Letter of Acceptance
Charlotte Christianson

Charlotte Christianson could barely contain herself as she read the letter from Captain Jenkins. She took a deep breath before picking up her quill.

Captain Jenkins,

As Captain of the Guard, I wholeheartedly trust your judgment regarding my safety. As much as it will pain me to leave my home, as per your request, I will have myself and my belongings relocated promptly.

Charlotte called for one of her servants and immediately began making arrangements for the move, citing “her” marble desk as the first item to be sent to her new residence.

[EM Fiction] A Desk Full of Dreams – Charlotte Christianson

Charlotte Christianson sat at her late father’s desk, exhausted, but still with much work to do. She read the document over and over, until her jaw was sore from clenching.

Surely he did not intend to donate such a large sum to…a monastery? Monks live as paupers! No, this just will not do.” Charlotte sighed, setting the parchment atop a fast-growing pile of things to be destroyed. She picked up another paper and felt a headache coming on as she read the first paragraph.

It is a wonder that there was any fortune left for me to inherit, father.” she thought to herself, settling back in his chair. Charlotte picked up a goblet and drank the last of her wine, swallowing hard as she tried to rinse away the putrid taste of bile that rose in her throat.

Why would anyone want to finance an orphanage?” she asked herself as she set her face down against an empty spot on his desk, the marble refreshingly cool against her slightly feverish skin.

More importantly…” she thought, “…what was his fascination with charity?

Charlotte’s thoughts were soon muddled as she fell into a deep slumber.

A Game of Thrones: Aristocrats Gather to Honor Lord Edwin Christianson
WarderDragon

Tonight Citizens and members of the Britannian Aristocracy came out to honor Edwin Christianson of Trinsic.

Few knew the man personally. But those who did described him with the common appellations: Good. Honest. Compassionate. Virtuous. Some came to watch. Others to pay lip service in an attempt to court the new Councilor: Charlotte.

Charlotte – in a move that shocked some and amused others – did not promise compassion or forgiveness to those responsible for her kidnapping and her fathers demise. Instead she crumpled the speech she had planned and stormed out of the Throne Room …leaving behind a bewildered Priest and several scandalized spectators.

Christianson has been well received in the short time since her appointment. But there have also been questions raised regarding the nature of her fathers death and her abductors. Only time will tell.

Edwin and Gwyneth Christianson are buried on Barrier Isle east of Trinsic. Those who wish to pay their respects are welcome to do so.

From the Desk of Captain Jenkins: The Rescue of Charlotte Christianson
EM Seppo

Captain Jenkins.

This letter was delivered to me by one who helped with the rescue.

Thiefmaster,

Regarding the disappearance of Lady Charlotte Christianson, here is the information as it was discovered:

Spoke with Tessa at the Shattered Skull who said that Lady Charlotte left in a hurry and dropped her necklace. Tessa didn’t know anything about the necklace except that it was very expensive and to speak to the jeweler who had made it, a Hector. Proprietor the Pearl of Trinsic…

Visited Hector at his shop and when asking him about Lady Charlotte, he seemed to go on the defensive like he had something to hide. He wouldn’t say a thing until he was told that Lady Charlotte was missing. And then he seemed surprised and concerned, and asked if we had spoken to her father. Hector seems to know that Lord Christianson was overprotective of her since her mother, Gwyneth died. Directed us to the grave that he said they regularly attend and maintain. If you ask me, seems he knows a lot about Lady Charlotte and her family, for a jeweler. Hm, he also inherited the shop when his parents died, interesting.

The body of Lord Christianson was laying across his wife’s grave when we arrived…careful examination of the body yielded no evidence, except a bracelet with a broken clasp and an ornate onyx rose on it. (Forensic eval gave no info on the corpse or jewel).

Headed back to Hector to ask about the clasp and orante onyx rose, he responded it seemed like some gang sign and asn’t his work.

At this point started back to Britain to speak with Jenkins. At the mention of the onyx clasp he suggested that we head to the you to ask about it. You then directed us to Nicolas Palmer in Buc’s Den, told us about the Order of the Black Rose etc. Etc. Well, you know you were there! And it seemed that maybe the Order of the Black Rose had a hand in Lady Charlotte’s disappearance.

Nicolas Palmer decided to divulge the location of the Order of The Black Rose’s hideout when given a bit of help with items that he needed. His direction led to a magical door under Buc’s Den. The door gave a the password of the day as httrnzqv mwacg and the key as 39.59 96.40.

Since the thieves and other unwanteds seem to communicate in Vigenere code, and since no Vigenere code can ever have numbers as a key, the 39.59 96.40 had to mean something else.

Coordinates maybe?

Coordinates they were, leading to another place in Buc’s den with a book touting a Super Secret Keyword. Crossing over and opening the book revealed – yet more numbers. So, the kidnappers were using different codes to hide their tracks. This turned out to be a simple substitution cipher and yeilded the word slim jim. Using slim jim as the key for the Vigenere code, worked and that yielded “pilfered booty” as the password to gain access to the hideout.

Inside we were immediately attacked by super stealthy ninja warriors of the Black Rose, whom we fought for hours after gaining access to the hideout. A few had contracts on them to abduct the Lady Charlotte.

While we were engaged in attacking, subduing or killing members of the OBR, word was passed along that Lady Christainson had been rescued.

That, dear thiefmaster, was how the day unfolded. I am slightly suspicious of a few things. For one, why did Lady Christainson leave the Shattered Skull and suddenly go to visit her mother’s grave when she had a prior engagement? Was word sent for her to go there? Hector seems to be hiding something..and it was reported that Lady Charlotte’s reaction to her father’s death seemed a bit, cold. I think perhaps she will be watched closely as she sits the High Council. Until the next time, Thiefmaster.

*Name Removed.*

Do what you wish with this information…

Always a pleasure.

[RP News] Proclamation from Magincia: The Britannian Charter

October 20, 2011 By: WarderDragon Category: Baja News

Britannian Charter
It has come to our attention that some negative responses have been given to the new Charter. In addition there have been comments that Magincia is responsible for this.

Let us tell you know that we are far more inventive, far more creative than to need to resort to purposely derailing this charter.

If blame is necessary, look no further than your own people. They are after all natorious for turning on their own.

As for Magincia: We welcome the new charter and the upcoming meeting with Councilor Goodfellow. Diplomacy has ever been one of our sources of PRIDE.

Sincerely,

Lynne Zellinous

Lord Christianson Dead. Assassins Guild Eradicated.
WarderDragon

Distributed in periodicals throughout the realm of Trammel.

We have received word that Lord Edwin Christianson – an influential aristocrat hailing from the Ducal lands of Trinsic – has been murdered.

He and his daughter Charlotte – named representative to the High Council – had been attending the grave of his late wife when the two were ambushed. And while the circumstances remain unclear there is evidence of a struggle before his daughter was carried off.

Edwin’s corpse showed no signs of desecration when discovered. No ransom note. The sole clue left for investigators: an ornate clasp engraved with an onyx rose.

Through the combined efforts of several Britannian and Feluccan mercenaries; the kidnappers – called the Order of the Black Rose – were discovered and eradicated. And while the assassins were distracted, two men (James and Nicholas Tarrant) managed to force themselves into the lowest levels of the lair and rescue Charlotte.

She is recovering at Castle Britannia.

Those who have information or theories about the nature of her kidnapping are encouraged to contact the proper authorities. (Or respond below.)
