Added Search Functionality

January 03, 2012 By: petra Category: Community News

Three new search boxes have been added to the new site to help people find the information they seek.

The original, custom google, search box will find playguide pages and news posts.

The three additional boxes allow searching of the three databases:

  1. The Creature Database, Hunter’s Guide
  2. The Item database
  3. The atlas database

This restores functionality temporarily lost in the conversion to the new site.

Players will have 30 minutes to find Santa and return prior to the start of the next event. Downtime between events will consist of idle chit chat and a few trivia questions for smaller prizes.

Game #2:  4 Square For a Rounded Win

After this event a short break will follow to allow for pit stops etc. During this time players will be invited to look at the bags other players have submitted for the bag deco contest. Winners for the Bag Art Deco Contest will be announced prior to the start of the auction.

Not all Googles are Equal

December 11, 2011 By: petra Category: Community News

This morning I had the following conversation on icq (reproduced with permission)

(10:41:29 AM) name hidden: you there hun?
(10:41:44 AM) Petra  Fyde: would you believe me if I said no? 😀
(10:41:49 AM) name hidden: heheh
(10:41:54 AM) name hidden: not really 😛
(10:42:11 AM) name hidden: there was a tutorial on shame dungeon on Stratics, I lost it and now I can’t seem to find it
(10:42:20 AM) name hidden: got any clues?
(10:42:36 AM) Petra  Fyde: Just type ‘shame’ in the search box at the top of the right side bar
(10:43:08 AM) name hidden: not saying anything
(10:43:15 AM) name hidden: embarrassing

We went to a lot of trouble to try to find a really good search engine for the site, looking at more than one Google-based script. The problem, according to my embarrassed friend, lies in the name ‘Google’.  Having ‘Googled’ from his browser’s navigation toolbar he assumed Google could not find the item he needed.

The custom Google search we are using will search for terms only within the site and will return much more relevant results than the more general browser search engine. In fact the page he was seeking was the very first item listed in the search I advised him to undertake.

The moral of this tale is simple, to find items on Stratics, search the site, not the web.

New Fishing Council of Britannia (FCB) Website!

December 10, 2011 By: Watchertoo Category: Community News

New Fishing Council of Britannia (FCB) Website!

Ahoy landlubbers and seafarers one and all!  The cross-shard fishing guild, FCB, is proud to announce we have redesigned our website.  We still be at www.thefcb.com but we have a whole new look and feel. You can post comments to the articles.  We have tried to make it easier to access content about fishing, the seas, pirates, etc.  As such, we try to find you the best resources with links to Stratics articles, UO Guide, etc.–plus our own content of course.  You can see the originals of all those shipwreck paintings.  And we are always looking for more crew to join our Great Lakes and Catskills fleets.  We be looking for able-bodied seafarers to captain our fleets on other shards as well.

A special thanks to Stratics for hosting our shard guild forums (links on the FCB main page.  We will be adding more content soon.

Enjoy!  –Fleet Captain Gem
