[RP News] Urgent Message Sent to the High Council. Citizen Murdered on the Streets of Magincia.

November 09, 2011 By: WarderDragon Category: Baja News, Baja Roleplaying & Event Alliance

*parchment copies are left in the Town Guard Tower, Lady Christianson’s Office, Ta’lin’s Keep, and the Pak Den*

Hail Councillors,

Lord James of MT sent an urgent call to action upon discovering a corpse (the bloodied body of a Magincian Gardener) in Magincia’s Garden Square. I, along with Councillors Elladan & Fern, Lord Lance Marshall, and Circe met James and found a disturbing note. Apparently the guards were distracted or could not prevent this criminal act. Attempts were made to contact Councillors Fig & Ta’lin, Negotiator Dante, and Captain Jenkins.

We hope to convene soon as a Council to discuss action. Until that time, we will undertake a watch, coordinated by Councillor Fern Goodfellow & Lord Elladan, and continue to investigate.

Origins: Spare Nothing
EM Godiva

Ten-year-old Charlotte Christianson stood quietly, trying not to fidget as she was being scolded. She wondered when her parents would be coming home. She hoped it would be soon.

“You are not to play with that thing anymore!” the grand duchess spat.

Charlotte opened her mouth to speak but the stern look on her grandmother’s face meant that she was in no mood to be trifled with. He was not a “thing”. He was her best friend. He was her only friend. Charlotte closed her mouth and continued listening.

“You are a daft, selfish little girl who cares nothing for our future.” she said, removing a wooden rod from her dresser.

Charlotte looked up, an overwhelming sense of dread washing over her. She knew what was coming.

“Hold out your hands.” her grandmother said in a flat tone, void of any discernable emotion.

Charlotte removed her gloves without a word. Her hands were tiny, delicate, and pale; marred only by the assortment of pink scars, which ran horizontally across them. She held them out and clenched her jaw, waiting.

[RP News] Sovereign Magincia Commemorates Night of All Souls. Costumes and a Meditation on Death.

The Night of All Souls
WarderDragon

Death is inescapable. It is all around us.

Each culture celebrates it. Samhain. Halloween. Dracula Night. And on this auspicious eve – when it is said the barrier between worlds fades to naught – the Magincians toast their dead and offer sacrifice to the wandering souls of night.

The Festival began with Carving and a Costume Contest. Princess Leia (Circe) and Wonder Woman (Magdalena) earned the highest honors for their costumes. Where Agostino (Snow White) proved himself to be good with a knife and even better at decorating.

Fern (as the Duchess) accepted the results with grace. …despite the lengths she had gone for her costume.

Magdalena and Seraphina Wistas ended the evening with two stories: Rapture – the tale of a Dark Lord and his fallen lover – and the Girl and the Witch.

[RP News] Rough Seas of Time – Part 2: Eleutheria

Rough Seas of Time – Part 2: Eleutheria
WarderDragon

We gathered the following night in the mist-shrouded woods of Moonglow.

Magdalena and Lynne were waiting for us. You could see trouble etched on their faces. Was this the same ghost that had called to them? Invading their dreams with a thousand dying screams. Would he show? And what would we do if he did?

As if on queue, the Captain emerged. The transluscent shadow of a man who died a painful, violent death, and who has been tormented for decades.

Taliesin and the Shieldmaiden of Shieba approached him.

Erik Leeward: *he looks about at the faces gathered around him, silently*
Taliesin: We’re here to help. We’d like to see your soul at peace.
Magdalena: Why are you not at peace? Why do you still haunt here?
Erik Leeward: *inclines his head, looking from face to face, and then to Magdalena.*
*opens his mouth, his voice an issuance of what could be only a manipulation of night breeze.*
What know any of you of peace?

The gathered looked at each other. This could end bad.

Erik Leeward: Eight weeks.
*his voice grows stronger as it becomes more practiced.*
Eight weeks with my beloved Ellie…
Taliesin: Where is she now?
Erik Leeward: *looks sadly to Taliesin*
If I knew, I would not be here.
I left her only for an afternoon.
A few hours only.
Sarah Dawn: Where did you see her last?
Erik Leeward: I had business to attend. She stayed here…
*gestures emptily to the house*
Where she’d be…safe.
But they found her.
He found her.
Sarah Dawne: Who?
Taliesin: Lord Van Cort?

That name. The villain of our tale.

Erik Leeward: He who should love her most – he who should have wanted nothing but her happiness…
Her father and his band of cutthroats.
I found her emerald necklace. Evidence of a struggle.

Cykosis: Capt. Leeward, is revenge something we can offer?
Erik Leeward: *lifts his head to Cykosis, his eyes pale and blue*
Revenge does my spirit no good…
Sarah Dawne: So we need to find Ellie?
Erik Leeward: They had taken her…
I could see their ships offshore.
They couldn’t have had more than an hour on my arrival here.
Taliesin: Did you not give chase yourself?
Erik Leeward: I set out to catch them, aye.
When my ship neared, the scant crew I could muster gave a ballistics diversion.
Their ships and mine exchanged fire, and in the fray I flew overboard, to swim for Van Cort’s ship.
I took a grapeshot to the chest as I swam, I knew I didn’t have much chance of survival.
But when I boarded the ship I could hear her screams from below deck…
I’d have done anything to see her, just once more…
Her father – prideful man that he was – caught me before I could react …I was bleeding – slowed – the world swam around me.
He looked at the wound in my chest, and into my eyes. I believe in that moment he knew what I knew. What my lovely Ellie knew. That love – real love – is worth it all. Every last breath.
He knew too, that I was done for. He didn’t speak, but I saw his eyes soften, and then resolve before the dagger plunged into my heart.
Better perhaps, not to have her watch me die.
But if I could just have seen her – just once more.
Sarah Dawne: We will find her and bring her to you.
Erik Leeward: Her necklace is all I have…it holds me here…
I cannot go far from it…
If I stray, my spirit fades…
She was my reason for living…
My reason for dying…
I have to know what’s become of her…
Taliesin: What direction were the ships heading?
Wildstar: Van Cort did say that he wanted to take her to Yew.
Magdalena: Aye. Van Cort’s plan was to take her to the Abbey.
Sarah Dawne: We shall bring Ellie here.
Erik Leeward: Please…
Find her…
*his voice fades to a whisper and meshes with the wind*
Find her…

We took to the ships. Some set sail for Yew. Others for Vesper.

It was in our search that some came upon a trickster. Proserpina. The young girl seemed well versed in the sins of the previous generation – knowledge she had gained in her apprenticeship to Asimov of the Dark Tower – mocking Van Cort for succumbing to his everlasting shame.

Shame. It has not been long – little more than two decades – since Cantabrigian consolidated the realm and named the Dungeons of Sin. Perhaps…

We discovered the wreckage off the coast of Wyverns Spur, due west of the Dungeon Shame. Lance Marshal, Sally and Allie were the first to discover the remains of a lifeboat wrecked on the rocks, the skeleton of a woman clutching a weathered emerald ring. Eleutheria’s Ring.

We took the ring back to Leeward. The Shade almost collapsed in despair. She was dead. Her father had won. She had suffered and died alone…

Erik: *…his spirit seems to shake in the wind.*

My love, my heart…
Cykosis: Her father… killed her.
Erik: *focuses every ounce of his energy on lifting the ring in his palm, looking at it.*

“Gone,” he murmured.

“Not gone,” came a voice, the cadence of wind through the willow trees. “…my love.”

Leeward turned. And gazed upon his beloved wreathed in shimmering silver light.

*shimmering silver light*

Taliesin: Ooo!
Sarah Dawne: Oh my…
Stefan Von Cross: *narrows eyes*
Erik: *the ring falls to the ground as he turns to her*
*he reaches for her hand*
Never lost…
Eleutheria: Apart. For a little time.
Erik: And thus is what we know as death truly the end?
Or …the beginning?
*leans in to kiss her softly*

Eleutheria: Beginning.
Erik: *Smiles and leads her inside.*

Leeward and Eleutheria were now at peace. Their souls drifting to whatever place awaits us on the other side. Nestled in the palm of the Creator.

So ends our tale. So begins theirs.

Rough Seas of Time Part 1: Leeward
WarderDragon

Last night citizens gathered to hear Magdalena and Lynne tell the tale of Leeward and Eleutheria.

Apparently there have been Visions. Mediums of the realm haunted by the wails of the restless damned as the eve of Samhain approaches.

Wishing to put an end to these hauntings, and put to rest those troubled, the two women sent adventurers and ghost hunters out in search of the eponymous Captain.

The first clue came in Vesper: in the Fishermens Guild once headed by Van Cort. A log book from two decades before sat open on the table. Turned to October. And two suspicious entries sent investigators scattering in two directions.

“Captain R. Puffrock”

– Departed for Moonglow on the 8th.

– Cargo: *Scratched Out*

– Status: Restricted.

Erik Leeward

– Departed for Britain on the 18th.

– Cargo: Wine and Instruments.

– Status: Restricted.

Some went to Moonglow. Others took the more obvious path and followed the trail to Britain. There the aging harbormaster – in the company of a retired thug – revealed Leeward had often frequented the Pirates Plunder in Buccaneer’s Den.

Upon reaching the tavern – a den of debauchery and corruption equaled only by the Sea Witch – Emilia bribed a wench and was let into the back room. There would be another ledger containing information about Leeward and his whereabouts.

Captain Leeward

– 2 Casks of Admirals Rum

– 1 Emerald Necklace

– Amount Due: 3,425 Britannian Crowns

– Residence: ‘Glow

We searched the Isle – once called Moon – until we came upon a ruined shanty nestled amongst the woods near the Lycaeum.

Summoning Magdalena and Lynne, it was concluded that we had indeed discovered his home. His soul was there, but the barriers were still strong, and the Necromancer would not be able to raise him. Until tonight.

The investigation left several questions unanswered. How did Leeward die? What became of Eleutheria and Van Cort? Who is leaving the logs out? Are we the only ones searching?

We will find out. Tonight. The event continues at 7:00 PM PST / 10:00 EST at Leewards Hut.

Rough Seas of Time: The Tale of Leeward and Eleutheria
Magdalena (Contributions by Lindae, Wildstar, Circe and WarderDragon)

She checked her reflection in the looking glass for the hundredth time that morning and carefully applied the pale color to her lips. She turned to go and then turned back, scowling. Sweeping up a handful of wavy tresses, she pinned them back with a delicate silver comb and smiled. Finally satisfied, she picked up the basket and stepped out into the cool Autumn air.

“You made good time Captain, ” the elder man said clapping him on the back. “Inside for a celebratory drink, eh?” The last of the crates were being unloaded on the dock as they both turned and headed into the hall. Drinks first and formalities later, that was how Lord Van Cort conducted business. The Captain looked back over his shoulder eyes quickly scanning all the stoney arches over the water and followed the merchant inside.

Her heels made sharp clicks on the stone pavers as she hurried along, more at a half-run than a walk, over the bridges leading to The Fisherman’s Guild. Eleutheria paused near some huge casks of brandy to catch her breath. She smoothed her skirts and exhaled slowly before she pushed the door open and walked inside.

“There she is! My Princess Ellie!” her father’s voice boomed.

“Daaaddy, ” she said exasperated, rolling her eyes and blushing deeply, “I’m eighteen now.”

“And you’ll always be my princess, ” he responded laughing loudly. “Come, sit!”

The deep blush was not on account of the nickname. Eleutheria was looking past her father at him — Captain Leeward. Her heart pounded so loud in her chest that she thought everyone there must be able to hear it. She felt the color rise in her cheeks again as he smiled warmly at her. A smile that made her knees go weak.

Her father stood, pushing his chair back as he rose. “Keep the Captain company while I go and tend to the manifests. Manifests and paperwork, my day is never done. I’ll see you tonight at dinner before you set sail, Captain.” He gave her a quick peck on the cheek and was out the door barking orders and hurrying people along.

Eleutheria walked over and placed the basket before him. “Buns and honey-butter,” she said shyly.

His crystal blue eyes did not leave hers as he took her hand and gently kissed it. “You know I love your buns.” He rose never letting go of her hand. “Walk with me,” he said, leading her to the door.

They pushed past the men milling about and headed towards one of the many bridges of Vesper. Eleutheria linked her arm in his and they walked at a leisurely pace over the cobbled ways, until he stopped midway on one and faced her. “I have something for you, ” he said, and gently pulled a small bundled piece of silk from his pocket and placed it in her hand.

She opened it with care and there nestled in the silk was a delicate emerald ring. She looked up at him, “I..I can’t accept this. It’s beautiful, but too dear a gift for a birthday present.”

He brushed a strand of hair away from her face, “It’s not a birthday gift,” he said. “Be mine, always.”

* * *

“Absolutely not!” her father roared bringing his fist down hard on table, “I forbid it!” The silverware had just settled back when she began her protest and he slammed his hand down again. “You, ” he said, rounding on Captain Leeward, “You get out of my house now!” The servants along the wall shifted uncomfortably, the dinner having come to a an abrupt halt.
“I’ll not have you married to a.. a .. that sea-faring privateer! I’ll make you a good match when the time comes!”

“But Daddy…” she started and was cut off.

“Stethos, bring your sister to her room and wait until I come up there.” Her brother rose slowly, taking her by the arm.

“I love him! And I hate you and I will marry him, ” she was shouting. Her diatribe continued as she was hauled down the hall.

“And you,” barked Lord Van Cort turning to Leeward again, “I said leave my house! We are done in all business!”

The Captain took his coat from a half-cowering servant and calmly said, “As you wish.” He gave a slight bow and walked out of the merchant’s home into the night air. And as Leeward left, Lord Van Cort sank onto the chair burying his face in his hands and muttering to himself. The rest of the servants slowly slipped from the room.

* * *

Eleutheria threw herself onto the bed going over and over in her head when exactly it had all gone downhill. She had caught Leeward’s glance when she had been dragged down the hall. His face was all calm, yet something in his eyes and in his demeanor led her to believe that all would be right. She gently twirled the delicate emerald on her finger and wondered what he was planning. The door shot open and she sat up. “Pack two bags. You will be headed to the Abbey and the monks and nuns on the morrow!” Her father pulled it shut and she heard the key turn, locking her inside. She rose and starting packing, but not to go to Yew.

The Captain walked quickly over the bridges back to the docks, long angry strides that carried him back to his ship. “Privateer, ” he sneered. “Better match. Ha! He’ll marry her off to some old noble twice my age.” He looked towards the sky the wind was favorable this eve and the sun would set soon, so little time…

Eleutheria packed four bags, leaving two in full view of the door, the others tucked behind her bed. She pulled the blanket over the mound of pillows she had made and stood back. It did look like someone was sleeping there. She would wait twenty minutes more, to be sure her father was asleep, and then she made her escape. As she climbed out onto the ledge outside her window, she almost yelped when something brushed her hip. She looked down and there was Leeward on the trellis. Quickly and silently, he helped her from her perch, and then they made their way to the docks.

* * *

“What do you mean it will take a few days? Find me a ship and find one fast!” The groom kept bowing and backing out of the room. Once outside he took off running for The Majestic Boat again. There would be no ships arriving until the end of the week, that fact would not change, and neither would Lord Van Cort’s anger.

* * *

“Tell me again, ” she said, her arms around his waist. “Ah, it is small shack, one room but by the water. It suits a lonely sea captain like me, but we will need to find something better. I hear that Magincia is beautiful, beaches, a good-sized dock, ocean breezes.” She looked up, “Hovel or castle makes no difference if I have you.”

* * *

“You do realize that the chances of finding her are small, ” Stethos tried talking some sense into his father.

“I don’t care, ” Van Cort growled. “Your mother would spin in her grave if she knew I let Ellie marry that sea dog. I’ll hunt him down until your sister is returned to us.”

“Any idea where he lives?”

“No, but I have a good place to start, Fisherman’s Guild. Pack your bags, we leave in two days.”
