[News] Protecting the Hunted

Last Thursday night, the Knights of the Crux Ansata met with their commander, Lady Danica Amandine, in the courtyard of King Blackthorn’s castle. Lady Amandine had decided that it was about time we checked on Sheon, the young dragon who currently resides in a cave west of Covetous.

Upon our arrival at the small cave, we were greeted by the happy chirping of the infantile dragon, who was clearly glad to have so many friends visit. Unfortunately, the mood took a turn when the Direbear Reib Adre, made an appearance. He wished to take Sheon into the forest to keep him safe him, claiming that the young dragon was being hunted, and wasn’t safe in his cave, even with the Knights there to protect him. He believed that some among our number could not be trusted.

Having refused Reib’s offer, insisting that we could protect Sheon ourselves, he said that he would not force us to hand over Sheon, and would return to the forest. But before he left, he warned us that a group calling themselves the Knights of the Scale, were on their way. A small army marching with the intention of slaying Sheon.

Shortly after Reib’s departure, the Scale Captain Tristan arrived. The man claimed that Sheon was a danger, and must be destroyed as soon as possible. Ignoring our protests and commands to stand down, he began to attack the leather bedding that Sheon had taken cover under, stabbing it repeatedly with his blade in an attempt to strike the dragon. Even knowing that Sheon was under the protection of the Crown made no difference to him.

After the Scale Captain’s stubborn refusal to leave, the Knights of the Crux were forced into combat with the Knights of the Scale to protect Sheon, for our future depends upon his survival. First the Peasants arrived, followed by Dragonslayers and finally Squires, all with the intent of destroying the almost defenseless creature. In the end, the Knights of the Scale, though strong, proved to be no match for the determined Knights of the Crux and, after a long fight, finally fell.

Though we protected Sheon this time, he is still in danger. We must be vigilant, for it is more than likely that others will come in search of the young dragon. They must not succeed.
