[EM Event] An Innocent Man?
Asurti looked up at the sound of approaching footsteps. Perhaps this time they were finally coming to tell him this horrible time was all a misunderstanding and he was free to go. Asurti couldn’t say he’d been treated badly at all. For the most part, he’d been treated fairly well. His guard was a quiet sort but brought him good meals and never insulted him. No, Asurti’s biggest problem was sheer boredom. He dared not tell a single story, even to himself for fear of the repercussions. This situation was enough of a nightmare without making things worse.
The footsteps came closer and stopped outside his cell. Asurti moved to the iron door and peered through to see the Chief Magistrate of Yew standing before him.
“Well, Storyteller,” the man said, “It seems that the date of your hearing has been set. In two days from this time, you will have the opportunity to hear if anyone has found any evidence to refute the charges against you. The crimes you are accused of are vile but there is no wish to put an innocent man to death. The Commander himself is coming from Trinsic to make sure everything is handled properly.”
Asurti felt the blood leave his head and stumbled back to his cot. He sent up fervent prayers that someone had been able to find the evidence to clear him. He was afraid he knew who was responsible for the crimes but would anyone believe it? Would anyone believe HIM? Two days…two days and he supposed he’d find out.
