It’s the raw material for Sulphurous ash, and so it is probably used for the same things, explosives! For summoning and binding, once again a Sorcery copycat for bone, but I suspect, of greater power. Preservation and binding were probably the keywords for the necromancers when they used this reagent, since trees can be nearly immortal in the eyes of a human. Currently spider’s silk will do the trick. Magical Uses: Mask of death (Gives the caster the appearance of death), Quake, Rock flesh (a long-lost wisdom, in some ways recreated in the spells Strenght and Bless), Summon dead, Golem and Withstand death.Alchemical Uses:

Dragon’s Blood  image of dragon's blood(rare)
History:
Great power, from a great creature. And as such its difficult to get. But the ancient thaumanturgists obviously knew how. Unfortunaly its violent nature can only be used for massive destruction, and are of little use in Lord British’s (controlled) land. Besides what was mentioned earlier, it can probably also be used for creating powerfull explosives, but these are most likely highly unstable. Magical Uses: Destruction and DevastationAlchemical Uses:
One researcher reported that grinding Dragon’s Blood will result in a brown mana potion, other researchers found Dragon’s Blood to be ungrindable.

Not even grandmaster wizards have any use for Dragon’s Blood.

Death surounds this mushroom, the Executioner’s Hood as the old necromancers called it was most likely used for poison, much the same way we use nightshade these days. No spell research has been undertaken on this item due to its rarity.

Necromantic Uses:
– unknown –

Location:
The Magician’s Friend near the docks of Vesper has an eye of newt on display.

Fertile Dirt image of fertile dirt (rare)
History:
Probably used for protection by the necromancers. Since Garlic is so much more “clean” and does the job just as good, it is to be prefered. It was probably used to raise a persons ability to withstand attacks, much like the protection spell we use today. Magical Uses: Rock flesh, Golem and Meteor swarm.Alchemical Uses:
The rarity of this item makes most alchemists unwilling to experiment with it.

Agricultural Uses:
A bowl full of fertile dirt can act as a very nutricient plant soil.

Magery Uses:
Not even the most skilled mage knows of any use for this item.

Necromantic Uses:
– unknown –

Location:

Garlic  image of garlic(common)
Few kitchens in Britannia are without this humble allium.  Legends of its protective powers extend back through the mists of time, and in modern magical  practice it is used in spells which protect the caster or a target and ward off or dispel a danger or evil.  For purposes of magic, the bulb of the plant is washed, peeled and ground into a paste.Alchemical Uses:
Potions made of garlic are used to cure poison.  Anyone can create a lesser cure potion with a single bulb of garlic, which is capable of curing lesser poison.  A serious hobbyist can create a stronger version using three bulbs of garlic, which is capable of curing regular poison.  It takes an expert alchemist, and five bulbs of garlic, to produce a greater cure potion capable of curing any poison.

Magery Uses:
Garlic is used in most spells involving someone’s health.

Ginseng  image of ginseng(common)
As a magical reagent, ginseng focuses the powers of healing and enhancement.  However, its bitterness belies its restorative nature.  Before it can be used in magic ritual, the root of the plant should be boiled in the freshest water, cooled and brought back to a boil in fresh water no less than forty times.  With the last boiling, it is transformed into a heavy, strong-smelling syrup.Alchemical Uses:
Ginseng potions are used to magically heal a person’s wounds.  A lesser-healing potion using a single ginseng root is easy enough to be produced by anyone.  An alchemy hobbyist can make a stronger version using three ginseng, and a journeyman alchemist can make the strongest known healing potion using seven ginseng roots.

Magery Uses:

  • First Circle: Create Food, Feeblemind, and Heal
  • Second Circle: Cure and Protection

Mandrake Root  image of a mandrake root(common)
The powerful mandrake inhabits the dimmest groves of dankest swamps.  Once found, great care must be taken in uprooting it in order to keep the taproot intact, for the taproot is its locus of power.  The exposed root is then carefully boiled and dried. Mandrake is used in spells involving strength, power and energy.Alchemical Uses:
Mandrake root is used to create potions that give one great strength.  A serious hobbist can use two mandrake roots to create a potion of strength.  An apprentice alchemist can create a greater strength potion using five mandrake roots.

Magery Uses:
Many of the known magical spells use mandrake root to power their effects.

  • First Circle: Create Food
  • Second Circle: Agility, Cunning, and Strength
  • Third Circle: Bless, Telekinesis, and Teleport
  • Fourth Circle: Arch Cure, Arch Protection, Greater Heal, Lightening, Mana Drain, and Recall

Nightshade  image of nightshade(common)
The deadly nightshade, another denizen of the swamps, was christened for its strange, waxen flowers, which only bloom at night.  It should be carefully handled and prepared, for it is poisonous to the touch.  For magical preparations, it is either crushed or brewed into a tea.  As a reagent, nightshade focuses the powers of death, damage, poison and illusion.Alchemical Uses:
All forms of poison use nightshade in one way or another, and poisons are the most varied potions in Britannia.  A weak poison potion is easy enough for anyone to make with a single nightshade.  A hobbyist can produce a normal-strength poison potion with two nightshade, and a journeyman alchemist can use four nightshade to make a strong poison.  Finally, a master alchemist is capable of producing the deadliest of poisons (save the touch of the poison elemental) using eight nightshade.

Magery Uses:
Nightshade is used primarily in spells that are intended to cause death.

  • First Circle: Clumsy, Feeblemind and Weaken

Was used for Protection by the Sorcerers, just as the necromancers used Dirt, but since the iron is of such importance in the “ordenary” world, garlic have replaced it. Most likely used in potions for protection, much like dirt. Magical Uses: Fire shield, Endure Heat, Explosion, Banish daemon, Flame bolt, Armor of flames, Conflagration, Destruction and Devastation.Alchemical Uses:
It is not thought possible to make a potion from a metallic reagent, since metal cannot be ground up in a mortar and pestle.

Magery Uses:
A spell necessitating pig iron remains to be discovered.

Necromantic Uses:

  • Curse Weapon
  • Mind Rot
  • Pain Spike

Magery Uses:
A use for serpents’ scales is also unknown to the field of spellcasting.

Necromantic Uses:
– unknown –

Location:
One can see a serpent’s scale on display at The Magician’s Friend in Vesper.

Spider’s Silk  image of spider's silk(common)
Spider’s silk is as common as spiders are, but as fine and light as air.  Because of this, at least one ounce of it is required for a simple spell.  The spider’s silk concentrates the power to summon, conjure and bind.Alchemical Uses:
Anyone can make a potion of nightsight from a single ounce of spider’s silk.

Sulphurous ash as a alchemical agent produces an explosive compound.  A weak explosion potion requiring three sulphurous ash can be produced by by just about anyone.  A novice alchemist can use five sulphurous ash to produce a slightly stronger explosion.  An expert alchemist can make the strongest explosion potion using ten sulphurous ash.

Vial of Blood  image of a vial of blood(rare)
History:
Blood is the essence of life, and therefor the necromancers used it in spells with movement or animation. Although the alchemists dont enjoy it, its fairly easy to guess that it was used mostly for agility potions, since it has so much in common with Blood moss. Magical Uses: Quake, Death speak, Sumon dead, Open ground and Golem.Alchemical Uses:
Using blood for alchemical experimentation is not quite what most alchemists enjoy doing, and so they don’t.

Magery Uses:
Although most mages will tell you that such blood has magical qualities, they are unable to tell you exactly what those qualities are.

Necromantic Uses:
– unknown –

Location:
Blood Elementals carry Vials of Blood. A vial of blood is on display at Magincia’s Magika.

Volcanic Ash  image of volcanic ash(rare)
History:
The refuse of the volcano has the property of creating the initial spark of fire (litteraly translated). As mentioned Sulphurous ash cover our needs for explosives, but its likely that a greater explosive can be created with Volcanic ash, the problem is finding a volunteer to try it. Magical Uses: Explosive, Summon daemon, Banish daemon, Create fire, Fire shield, Ignite, Flame bolt, Flash, Conflagration, Destruction and Meteor swarm.Alchemical Uses:
Sulphurous ash is volatile enough for most alchemist’s taste, so they tend not to test volcanic ash for fear of it being even more volatile.

Magery Uses:
Wizards are unwilling to do any research on volcanic ash for much the same reasons as alchemists.

Necromantic Uses:
– unknown –

Location:
One can see a bit of volcanic ash at The Magical Light in Vesper.

Wyrm’s Heart  image of a wyrm's heart(rare)
History:
