[EM Event Report] Election – Results of Round 2 (Sunday 27th)

December 01, 2011 By: Kayne Category: Europa News

In keeping up with the progress of these Elections I once again attended so I could hear the results from the second round of voting.

On arrival I noted some of the names in attendance:

Duey [ELV], Kairi [ELV], Erzsebet Bathory [ELV], Lord Forbrak [CBH]

Kou [DOT], Lady Scaramanga [WoY], Stomp [WoY]

Richard Heath [-V-], Rimeny De Blaze [-V-], Aidan Duncan [-V-], Escaflowne [-V-]

Amantala Chuck , Sepuric Lithril [-V-], Anira Cuilwen [-V-]

Maleachi [TMG], Lady Pkr Of Yew [Pwn.], Antinea [*CD*], Valas,

Sari- Liane [-SM-]

Of course the 6 candidates were also in attendance:

Heimlich

Lord Irvyn

Lord Aron Swordmaster

Alaster The Mad

Escaflowne

Nathan Hawke

On arrival some of the crowd were complaining about the terrible seating which Irvyn informed us that he had made numerous complaints about, but to no avail.

Colonel Clegg: Good evening everybody. In a few moments I will announce the results of the second round of the elections.

I would like to invite all the candidates up on the stage. Right now we have six candidates. But we will only have two left after tonight.

Candidates, are you ready?

At this point Aron took a quick seat on Lord British’s throne presumably just in case he never got the chance in the future.

Heimlich: maybe i should get down now, get it over with quick

Nathan Hawke: Aye Heimlich me too

Some cheers of “Heimlich” and “Aron” arose from the crowd.

Aron Swordmaster: Heimlich, as long as you are by our side, it doesn’t matter if you get down now

Colonel Clegg: The first candidate to leave the elections….

Is Nathan Hawke

Nathan, you got 21 votes in this round

Nathan was smiling at this news, and perhaps looking a little relieved. A round of applause for Nathan was given.

Nathan Hawke: You all were better at politics than I

Irvyn: Sadly that is true.

Colonel Clegg: Do you want to say something before stepping down?

Nathan Hawke: No I am fine thank you sir, however I will need a word with everyone a bit later.

Several looks of curiosity passed among the crowd at the news Nathan needed to talk to us all.

Colonel Clegg: The next candidate did slightly better than Nathan and got 22 votes….

I’m sorry Heimlich but you didn’t make it….

A round of applause from the crowd.

Curunir: Good try Heimlich

Mary-Ann: well done heimi

Nathan Hawke: Well done Heimlich good man

Kayne: sorry Heimi

Amantala Chuck: well done heimi chuck

Colonel Clegg: Do you want to say something before stepping down?

Heimlich: thank you all for listening to my speeches and for the votes, and may the best pwal win!

Several shouts of “A PWAL” were heard around the crowd. Alaster the Mad was also smiling broadly at Heimlich’s comment and the shouts

Colonel Clegg: Thank you Heimlich, for participating

The next candidate got 46 votes in this round of the elections

Aron Swordmaster. I’m sorry you didn’t make it

A large round of applause from around the crowd, it was also noted that Nathan was clapping rather enthusiastically for Aron.

Kayne: Unlucky my friend

Alaster The Mad: you rock aron!

Nathan Hawke: Well done sir

Mary-Ann: unlucky aron

Aron Swordmaster: Thank you all for the support so far, and I hope we can all unite behind whoever is the eventual candidate, and I wish him all the best myself

Colonel Clegg: Thank you Aron, and thank you for participating in the elections

Aron then went down the line of remaining candidates to shake their hands.

Colonel Clegg: Now there are 3 candidates left. All of them very strong contenders for the title. But only 2 of them can continue to the next round….

The one who didn’t make it came short just 18 votes

I’m sorry Irvyn but you didn’t make it

It has to be said that Irvyn looked entirely relieved rather than upset about the fact he missed out on the chance to be Lord Protector. The crowd also gave a hearty round of applause and cheers for the Duke

Nathan Hawke: Now that has surprised me

Sepuric Lithril: *Gasps* thats surprising

Irvyn: Well done to both of you.

Alaster The Mad: Thanks for all Irvyn!

Mary-Ann: I wasn’t expecting that

Escaflowne: Well played

Irvyn: You also.

Aron Swordmaster: Hurrah sir for your late surge all the same!

Irvyn: But I will be supporting Alaster now.

Escaflowne: Aye i gathered that much

Colonel Clegg: Irvyn any words for your voters?

Irvyn: My thanks to all those who supported me. As I said in the questions on Friday, I will support whowever stands against Escaflowne. I truly believe that his path is too dangerous and unsteady for Britannaia.

Therefore I ask you all now to support Alaster.

Nathan Hawke: Interesting…

Escaflowne: Or you could vote Esca instead

Colonel Clegg: Thank you Irvyn

Angeline: For Trinsic and the duke!!

Aron Swordmaster: I salute your campaign Irvyn, and would have supported it myself if you’d gone that one round more

Irvyn: Thank you Aron.

Colonel Clegg: One more round of applause for Irvyn. He was a very strong contender

Escaflowne: So what were the final scores of votes? Would like an idea of what im up against

Colonel Clegg: And so we are left with two candidates

Alaster The Mad: * whispers to escaflowne : prepare your pants*

Escaflowne: *Whispers back, prepare to die*

Colonel Clegg: You have done well gentlemen

Aron Swordmaster: Can we somehow merge them into one, and be ruled by an Escalaster?

Alaster The Mad: thank you !

Escaflowne: That is a very nice name

Kayne: cant we have alaflowne?

Irvyn: Or Alasflowne.

Heimlich: alastaflowne?

Colonel Clegg: So now I would like to give the word to our final two candidates

Sonea Lore: The scores?

Irvyn: Just out of interest, what were the final voting scores?

Colonel Clegg: Escaflowne, you came second in the votes

Escaflowne: How many did i have?

Colonel Clegg: You had 165 votes. Irvyn had 147, and Alaster an impressive 239

The crowd erupted into gasps of shock at the lead Alaster had gained ahead of Escaflowne.

Escaflowne: And now he will have all of Irvyns voting base, In the next round

Irvyn: A very impressive score indeed.

Escaflowne: Going to be a tough week

Curunir: Esca has a task to catch up there….

Aron Swordmaster: And he didn’t even make a poster; Pants not Posters seems to be the way to power!

Colonel Clegg: Sounds like you have work to do Escaflowne. But, you can start now

Escaflowne: Theres only so many posters i can make

Colonel Clegg: Just a few words for your voters?

Escaflowne: I would like to thank everyone who voted for me

Irvyn: Or you could just concede now, of course.

Escaflowne: And my policies. It is greatly appreciated

Without you i would not be here, You have my eternal gratitude

It seems i have a tough week ahead of me, against overwhelming odds

Mary-Ann *yawns*

Escaflowne: But i will not give, I will not surrender, I will continue to fight to the best of my ability. Whatever the odds

Stomp: *applauds short speech in hope it finished*

Escaflowne: Chaos shall prevail. In this life or the next. Thank you

Colonel Clegg: Thank you Escflowne

Richard Heath: Well done, Flowne.

Stomp: well done bear man

Escaflowne: Thank you

Colonel Clegg: And finally…Alaster The Mad!

Alaster The Mad: * salutes everyone*

Aron Swordmaster: *waves his pants in the air like he just dont care*

Alaster The Mad: I would like to tell : i’m astonished

Kayne: *steals arons pants and waves those*

Alaster The Mad: this sums it all, but i’ll develop a bit, thanks a lot to everyone who gave me support and i’ll develop during the weeks  the plan i talked about during speeches

so you’ll see ! pants are everything !

Alaster The Mad: * raises fist*

Alaster The Mad: A PWAL !

Kayne: A PWAL

Mary-Ann: VOTE PWAL!

Alaster The Mad: A PWAAAAAAAAL !

Heimlich: A PWAAAAAL

Antinea:  A PWAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL

Alaster The Mad: Thanks a lot to everyone and for last words. congratulations to other candidates : they all rocked much

Aron Swordmaster: thanks to YOU alaster!

This concluded round 2 of the election

For those who are interested we also have a special treat in the form of a  video taken of the event. Many thanks to Watchertoo for coming along and putting this together.

[Fiction] Spies Like Us

November 27, 2011 By: Kayne Category: Europa News

Nathan Hawke sat and pondered recent events and his own reaction to them. It had been a bad mistake to run for Lord Protector and a worse mistake to play the election game. At least he had not got himself tied down too much in the recent election debates. Thankfully the work of a spy is seldom over. There is always someone, somewhere plotting something. And now was no different.

The conversation between Nathan and Monica had gone as well as it could have. Monica had been travelling en route to a meeting with Nathan when she had been ambushed. Nathan raised an eyebrow at this but let it pass, Monica was well known as a mistress of disguise and she had never let herself fall into enemy hands before.

Monica’s rescue had been well handled and the Cipher Code book had been recovered, but of course its contents had now been compromised.

Nathan dismissed Monica and ordered her to take a month’s leave of absence and to disappear for that time. He then stood and looked out of the window. It wasnt all bad. Whoever had stolen the Cipher Book could only decode messages written using that specific cipher and of course, if they used that cipher in their messages they were easily decoded.

But why would an organisation kidnap Monica, remove the cipher book and yet leave her alive and tied up, of all places, in the Exodus dungeon?

Nathan discussed his ideas with Skaros who kept very quiet. Finally Nathan handed Skaros the cipher book who looked it over very carefully before placing it on his desk.

[EM Event] Ask the Candidates – Special Report

November 25, 2011 By: Kayne Category: Europa News

Having been staying with family in Britain for a few weeks I decided to pop down to the Ask the Candidates session held in the throne room at Castle British to hear the candidates answer questions and debate amongst themselves.

On arrival the only people present were myself and Lord Fargo, while waiting patiently I got chatting with Lord Fargo

Kayne: nice to keep us waiting

Fargo: Indeed. I shall bare this in mind when I place my vote.

Kayne: Yes I am very disappointed the candidates should have been well prepared

Fargo: It has been my great misfortune to miss the other debates this week… Have I missed much of interest?

Kayne: There were some good questions and answers and a surprising invasion too

Fargo: Invasion?

Kayne: Yes an attack in minoc, one at Reg Volom too and the savages attacked

Fargo: Oh dear.

Just at this point Heimlich arrived somewhat intoxicated. Not a good look for a future Lord Protector.

Heimlich: *hic*

Colonel Clegg then arrived and got things underway.

Colonel Clegg: Good evening everybody

Heimlich: EVENING *hic*

In the usual looking around I saw the grin on Irvyn’s face as he looked over at the intoxicated Heimlich

Irvyn: Been seeking some liquid courage?

Heimlich: *hic*  …I’m not wasted…

Colonel Clegg: Let’s see who of the candidates are here tonight. I see Irvyn,  Heimlich, Hm, that’s it eh

At this point I let Clegg know that I’d heard from Escaflowne that he was on his way

Colonel Clegg: Ah, good

Irvyn: *looks behind him* What about Alaster?

Colonel Clegg: Ohh yes!

Kayne: I havent heard from alaster so far

Irvyn gave an enquiring look toward Marie Yevoupas

Colonel Clegg: How could I miss him….

Marie Yevoupas: i don’t know; he should be here…

Just at that point Escaflowne arrived as promised and apologised for being late

Colonel Clegg: So, tonight we’re going to have a debate . That means in addition to answering questions, the candidates will get to respond to eachother. I will act as moderator, to make sure the debate stays respectfull

Marie then informs the crowd that alaster is on the way. I added that Aron was unable to make it due to important business out in the land.

Colonel Clegg: Candidates, would you please come to the stage?

Colonel Clegg: Alright candidates. I want to you to listen to each other and give each other room to speak. You may be sharp in your words but keep it respectful please.

Ah good, Alaster is here

Alaster The Mad: i’m sorry mongbats stopped me on way !

————————————————

Here is an image of the candidates present at this meeting

Colonel Clegg: Alright, does anybody in the audience have a question to get us started?

First question came from your intrepid reporter enquiring as to where Nathan was so voters knew.

Colonel Clegg: I’m not sure. He probably had something important to do…

I then went on to ask

Kayne: For all candidates, what one thing about you do you think makes you right for this job?

Heimlich: I am a neutral and have no bias for or against any one city or race. So I am able to better make my decisions regarding the kingdom as a whole

Escaflowne: If i had to name just one thing, i would go for the fact that i am pro freedom

Irvyn cut in with: The rest of us being pro-slavery?

Escaflowne: My passion lies within the freedom of people, defending their individuality, making sure that they are not sheep. I’ve seen that poor elf locked in your basement Irvyn

At this point taking a look around there were some raised eyebrows and a few gasps heard around the audience. Your intrepid reporter being one of them, especially given my elven heritage.

Irvyn: That would be difficult, since I do not have a basement. You may visit my house any time and ascertain this.

Escaflowne: Aye i was only kidding for the record

Colonel Clegg: Escaflowne, stick to the facts please

Make what you will of this folks, not a nice joke to be making. But what is the truth?

Escaflowne: I’ve said my part, i am all about the people. Making sure they get the freedoms they deserve

Irvyn: Since I am restricted to only one thing, I will say it is my age. Since age brings with it experience, knowledge, and wisdom. When I was young, I travelled widely and lived in many places – even Vesper. Irvyn looked at escaflowne sideways at this point Under an assumed name, naturally.

Perhaps Irvyn isn’t an entirely honest and trustworthy leader going around under assumed names. But you the voters decide.

Irvyn: I love the land, and I have seen much of it, and I wish to preserve it.

Escaflowne: To be honest, even i must admit that was a darn good answer Irvyn

Irvyn: Thank you Escaflowne.

Escaflowne: Should of thought of that one.  Although i don’t think im as old as you

At this point there were some shouts from the audience about Irvyn being 102 years old.

Alaster The Mad: I just wanted to say, my beard proves i’m not young. My youth has been used to walk on all sosarian lands and i met lot of people from differents horizons, and even different undies tailoring techniques. As i enjoyed all my time with all those people, i’ll give all i have to help them keep going in the best way we can and of course, keep the pants supply un discontinued.

On a look at the candidates I noticed Irvyn checking his belt was tight enough at the mention of undies. Followed by a sly look from Alaster at Irvyn’s socks

Colonel Clegg: Kimi had a question?

Kimi: At least one candidate talks of neutrality……and another talks of preservation as things stand……Does this mean they condone the systematic slaughter of elves by the Yewish?

It was noted that there were some nods of agreement to this question.

Colonel Clegg: To who do you want to adress this question?

Heimlich: systematic slaughter? i thought it was more of a persecution

Just at this moment a member of the Yew guards arrived. Somewhat unfortunate timing.

Colonel Clegg: To who do you want to adress this question?

Kimi: To Hiemlich and M’Lord Irvyn

Heimlich: well, i don’t think my neutral stance in any way means i condone this ‘slaughter’ of the elven peoples

Kimi: So you’ll allow its continuence?

Kayne: Do you intend to stop such slaughter

Heimlich: i meant it more as a way to broker peace – or some version of it – between such groups. Since i am not affiliated with either party i am able to consider both points of view, though one is obviously not so popular with the rest of the kingdom but it deserves consideration as a point of view

Kimi: Whats to consider…when one race slaughters another?

Heimlich: perhaps the question ‘why?’ should be considered, what started it? what keeps it going?

Colonel Clegg: Let’s turn the question to Irvyn

Irvyn: Very well. First I will say that I am unaware of wholesale slaughter going on. Certainly there is persecution, and some of those escaping it have come south to Trinsic.

From my position I was able to hear Kimi muttering: None so blind……

Irvyn: But either way, I do not condone it. *cold tone of voice* Neither do I condone the actions of Vesperians in assisting the drow with their slavery.

Escaflowne: Thats nothing to do with me. I wasn’t even in these lands when that happened. But i can assure you that no one in Vesper is consorting with Drow anymore

Irvyn: However, I have already stated that I do not believe the role of the Lord Protector

Kimi: Thats not Vesperians….thats the Swaggers company!

Irvyn: is to be a policemen, still less judge, jury and executioner.

Heimlich: so you can’t control your own populace?

Escaflowne: Its hard to control something when i am thousands of miles away. I left Vesper over a year ago. It was then the Drow incident happened

Heimlich: shouldn’t you have left someone trustworthy in charge then

Escaflowne: Vesper has always despised drow from the war of the barbed leash. Since i returned and gained power again. There have been no dealings with drow

Hmm being of elven hertiage, the drow are distant relations and I’m not sure I like that Vesperians despise my relations.

Fargo: I was merely interested to hear whom of the other candidates…You would choose to support should you be unsuccessfull.

Irvyn: My answer is, I will support anyone but Escaflowne. This is not because of anything personal against him.  He is a fine man, and a good leader.

But the teachings of Blackthorn are dangerous, and leading Britannia down that path will bring not freedom, but anarchy.

Colonel Clegg: *Nods* Very clear

Escaflowne: I would like to respond to that? I just wanted to say, i have no plans for Chaos to take full control over the lands. For with chaos there must always be Order. They go hand in hand. I wish to restore the balance  and bring chaos back to balance Order. Not destroy the balance again

Colonel Clegg: Ok, and while you’re talking answer the question as well

Escaflowne: It is a hard choice, I am tempted to say Heimlich because he is a believer of Chaos judging by his shield.

But to be honest I am not sure i would be fully supportive of any of the current candidates. Due to the fact their ideals and beliefs are so different to mine.

If it were to be anyone though It would be Nathan, I have worked well with Nathan in the past and he has aided Vesper

Alaster The Mad: Well, i’ll take the oposite, saying  each of candidates got somethoing good in em, they all rock. But if i had to choose…Irvyn seems to me the wiser and  Heimlich got awseome socks, so the choice is hard !

Irvyn: Thank you Alaster, I appreciate that.

Alaster The Mad: i really think it !

Heimlich: again, i think its a hard choice to make, but i feel irvyn holds a similar stance to my own, or one closest to it i should say.

Some comments were made that Heimlich was carrying a Chaos shield. Which he went on to explain

Heimlich: in my position as a neutral party i feel free to contemplate on both order and chaos without declaring my allegiance to either

Escaflowne: Good answer

Irvyn: A good answer. And thank you Heimlich.

Heimlich: but on the choice of candidates i feel alaster is also a strong candidate. he has many fine hats, but also many good ideas about the realm, and leadership, despite his ‘pants problem’

Poor alaster had turned bright red at such good praise from his rival

Irvyn: I was very favourably impressed by Alaster’s speech, and yours, Heimlich.

Heimlich: esca is a strong leader in times of war and conflict  and i would follow him in such times but otherwise, i feel his policies are lacking  the delicate touch. He has iron paws

Colonel Clegg: Ok, we have just a little bit of time left. For the last few minutes, I’m going to let the candidates ask the questions. Each of you will get to ask one question, and get one candidate to answer. Keep the answers somewhat brief please

————————–

It was at this point I began to overhear some conversation between some Vesperian women and thought it should be included here. I am not sure whether they refer to Escaflowne but perhaps it needs noting none the less.

Devante Stirling: hows he doing ?  has he told them our true plan yet ?

Anna Goodward: *shrugs* Ah jus’ came ‘ere mahself

————————–

Alaster The Mad: Ok hm, Esca, how do you plan to keep balanced order and chaos ? briefly ?

Escaflowne: Well order is already fully formed within the Kingdom, It is everywhere and has been for years. There has been an absence of Chaos, which i intend to return to balance it out again. I have already started doing this by forming the Hand of Chaos

It is our job to spread the principle of Chaos, seek out and destroy tyranny and defend the peoples freedom, individuality and difference. Show them they have a choice. We do not want to eradicate Order just give people the choice

Heimlich: to alaster: in times of war, will you be making plans personally? or will you be deferring to advisors or city leaders.

Alaster The Mad: Neither of two in facts : i’ll try to gather as much leaders as possible, and we’ll make decisions collegially for example, escas voice would count also in such a meeting of “problem arriving”

Heimlich: so you will place yourself at a level with those who perhaps have more experience?

Alaster The Mad: You know, i think they DO have more experience but i have a step back on situation, and i’d need their advice.  i’ll try to “concatenate” all voices in something coherent and useful for the lands

Irvyn: An excellent answer – may I say something?

Colonel Clegg: Yes Irvyn, I was going to turn the question to you anyway

Irvyn: I just wanted to say that I heartily endorse Alaster’s policy of advisors and I had already has similar thoughts on setting up a council of some sort,  if agreed.

Alaster The Mad: thank you very much, Irvyn

Irvyn: I discussed it with Aron after the meeting last night.

Heimlich: a council is not unheard of, and not a bad idea

Irvyn: I know this will sound somewhat frivolous, but I believe it is something all Sosaria wants to know:

Escaflowne: Yes i am really a bear Irvyn

Irvyn: Alaster, what *does* happen to all the underpants?

Escaflowne: Haha that is a good question

Alaster The Mad: Well

There was laughter from around the room at this question

Alaster The Mad: we have a secret recipe

Heimlich: he plasters them around people’s homes, mostly

Escaflowne: you usually plaster Amantalas shop in them dont you?

Alaster The Mad: yeah also !

Colonel Clegg: A recipe that involves underpants?

Alaster The Mad: i can’t tell much about what happens to pants… it’s an ancestral crafting…but know that we have a factory working 24/24 for bringing you the finest pants on sosaria ! so in some way, dust to dust, and so, pants are… somewhat reused…

Escaflowne: I’ve really asked everything i need to know is the past, but i’ll ask Irvyn a question that i feel my fellow Vesparians would want to know the answer to

If you were to win Irvyn, Touching on this point with the Yewish and elves earlier. Would you make attempts to put a stop to the Yewlanders Archaic ways and Rebellious military regimes. I don’t want an Invasion of Vesper by the Yewlanders again. We’ve been fighting with them for years. But they just can’t leave us in peace.

Irvyn: I am sure they do not want to be attacked by Vesper again either.

Escaflowne: Well in the history books, they nearly always started the wars with us. Bar one or two

Irvyn: And you know that they see Vesper as a threat, with your constant attempts to gain dominance in the north.

Escaflowne: Whats wrong with wanting a tiny peice of the map for ourselves and our way of life.  Does the Kingdom and Yewish have to own everything and control everyone?

Irvyn: You have Vesper …

Colonel Clegg: Ok, I think this is complicated an issue to tactle tonight and besides, we’re out of time

Heimlich: well you’re campaigning for a position with the kingdom..

Escaflowne: Yes that is a steep road to go down, So i’ll let it go for now

Kayne: Clegg let them answer Im interested

Escaflowne: Well Clegg can open the voting booth, And anyone who wants to stay and listen can.

Irvyn: I will not carry on the debate as such, but I will answer your question. In brief, no, I would not attempt to change the Yewish. Nor will I attempt to change Vesper, or Minoc, or Britain, or Skara or anyone else.

Escaflowne: So you would not come to the aid of Vesper if you were Lord Protector and they decided to invade us?

Irvyn: You spoke of freedom, think carefully about what that means. If one city’s freedom is taken away, what happens to all the others?

Escaflowne: There are restraints even on freedom. Or we’d all be animals. I don’t want you to take control of them. Its just the Yewish have always tried to play world police In their own little minds

Irvyn: Precisely, Escaflowne … and that is where Blackthorn went wrong. He did not keep to those limits, but followed his chaotic path to ruin.

Escaflowne: I just want to know if you would make any attempts to stop them bringing their regime to Vesper and trying to ‘police’ us as it were

Irvyn: I will not police you, or them.

Escaflowne: And Blackthorn was corrupted by Exodus.  That was his downfall nothing else

Irvyn: The Lord Protector is not a dictator, to rule over everything.

Escaflowne: But his role is to keep the peace and unite the nations.  But i can see now that if Vesper were to become under attack from the Yewish without provocation you would not aid us. Or attempt to keep the peace

Irvyn: Yes, and I will pursue that via the diplomatic route. But that is not the same as changing the way that they are, their way of life.

You asked if I would change their archaic ways – the answer is no.

Escaflowne: Thats fair enough.  Although their archaic ways are clearly a problem. Burning innocent elves

Well i can see  we’ll never agree on this. So lets agree to disagree

[EM Event] Meeting With The Candidates – Special Report (large)

November 22, 2011 By: Kayne Category: Europa News

Being in town this evening I decided to drop by at the meeting being held in the companion hall in Britain. There seemed to be some trepidation and anxiety in the air around the hall.

As I arrived Colonel Clegg announced there was to be a question & answer session with the 3 candidates present at the meeting. He called Heimlich, Aron Swordmaster and Escaflowne up to the stage area.

Colonel Clegg: Raise your hands please, if you have a question for the candidates. Yes Tigurius?

Tigurius: As Lord Protector, if elected, what will you do to combat the GIANT sodding turkeys outside my home? and many others?

Escaflowne: slaughter them humanely and put a turkey on everyones dinner table. Even the poor people across the lands so everyone gains a good mean from it

Tigurius: what about the poor orcs?

Aron Swordmaster: i believe they will be long gone before any are elected; however were i to be lord protector it would fall under the remit for my community events

at this point alaster arrived late to join the question session

Escaflowne: why would we give orcs food?

tigurius: they may be hungry?

Escaflowne: as it stands we are hostile with orcs. until our terms with them are friendlier, we wouldnt give them any turkey. Im sure they are capable of killing their own and eating it

It wasn’t made clear if the “we” that Escaflowne is referring to was Vesper the military organisation he belongs to, or britannia as a whole.

In my surveying of the room as I often do I noticed the look of disappointment that briefly crossed Tigurius’ face before he schooled his expression back to a blank one.

Aron: the orks should cep their mouf shut until then?

Esca: they are a strong race

aron: no turkee for orcs?

Nathan: to echo escaflownes comments. I believe we should slaughter them and feed the poor. Turkeys that is.

Phineas then asked “what if it is discovered it was our actions that caused this mutation?”

Clegg: Would any of you like to answer that?

Esca: then prevention measures will be taken to ensure it doesnt happen again

Aron: I cannot agree with Nathan, not every turkey will be a nuisance, nor ever pauper proud enough to demand turkey. We should be guided by the community itself

Esca: until mages of the greatest calibre have studying the cause and mutation fully then perhaps if it is safe, it can be used in controlled environments. Bigger turkeys feed more people than normal sized ones so it could become a benefit

Nathan: agreed esca

Alaster: what do they eat to feed that much?

Nathan: pants probably

Alaster:  I could supply them!

Aron: then why has alaster not become a turkey too?

At this point Nathan hit his face with his palm

Alaster: I have no feathers

Once again surveying the room your intrepid reporter saw something gruesome when he spotted Alaster the Mad picking his nose

Clegg: Any questions from the audience

Michael: why do we need a lord protector and why should we vote for any of them to be it?

Clegg: I think all the candidates will want to answer that, we’ll go down the line. Starting with Nathan

Esca: swear we’ve answered that question about three times in the past now

Clegg promptly slapped esca on the head and told him to shush

Nathan: to answer your question briefly

We all know that Nathan doesn’t know the meaning of the word

since the death of Lady Dawn the lands have been more disjointed than ever. the lands need a strong military leader who is answerable to the people who elected them.

Imagine my surprise, he was actually brief

clegg: Heimlich

Heimlich: well i would answer the same as nathan…mostly. the land does need a strong military leader but also a diplomat too.

Phineas piped up again here to demand that heimlich give voters something and not just go with what Nathan had said.

Heimlich: well there is currently no strong guiding hand, the work is being done by town protectors and guardsmen but the land needs someone to pull it all together to help coordinate defences against any threats the kingdom might face between different peoples and different cities since its no good every city having their own idea about what to do.It will just mean they are pulling in different directions, so someone has to take the reigns as it were.

Clegg: The question moves to alaster

Alaster: well, as i said during my speech. Ive lived a lot of invasions on those lands and ive noticed awesome people doing things. May i remember you SRC (sosarian red cross) doing all the rez(ressurection) and heal stuff. Other good willing persons helping for the great good it’s not a fact of leading. Its a fact of accumulating “i can do this” to make a big “lets do that”

all alone, each of us, we can kill mongbats, ok. But who could have mericles on his own, if is dead. No one!

Thats the gather of willing people to help,

Clegg cut in: “thats right!”

Alaster:  which will make us strong, no just me.

WoitaB shouted “together!” at this point.

Aragorn: unity is strength

Around the room there were members of the crowd nodding agreement. but whether this was to aragorn or to alaster remains to be seen.

Alaster: indeed and it always been.

Clegg: esca your turn now

Esca: i’ll keep it short and sweet then

A lord protector is needed to unite the nations military forces to deal with threats both external and domestic.

If vast armies of evil were to plague the realm once more we would stand stronger together than apart and also if internally we have civil wars then we would be left in a vulnerable position.

So a lord protector would be put in place to keep the peace between all of us too and i believe you should vote for me because i have military and political experience.

I bring something different to the table such as the teachings of Lord Blackthron and the principle of Chaos. Plus I wear a bear mask.

ha! he calls that short and sweet? *sighs* damn politicians and their spin

Clegg: last but not least Aron

A cheer is heard from Alaster the Mad

Aron: Thank you Clegg. To answer your question in a somewhat different way

You ask why you need a lord protector; rather, we as candidates should say, what can we do for you?

You see, the role begins today, but many more will follow us no doubt. What we should offer is not a role to be filled but a response to the role you need.

Were i to be elected, it is my intention to work day and night to set up mechanisms and opportunities that will benefit all of us in the future. To forge lines of communication, encourage events that are than just talking *cough* but of benefit to each of us.

Individually: if you say “Lord Protector, I need this” they listen. Or as a city, a people, whatever “lord protector what shall we do?”

Others speak of their swords and their arms, i speak of my ears

You define the role. It is, after all, your kingdom and you shall have my ear for what you need. That I think is all I wish to say.

a rousing speech indeed, one direct from the mouth of a fine politician – but is it all spin? You the voters need to decide

At this point Nathan had to attend to his duty somewhere.

Michael commented: Alaster has the best answer for me. I vote him

Alaster: Nathan flees, as usual!

Clegg called for any more questions just as a commoner ran into the companion hall puffing and panting

Commoner: Mr Barret, Mr Barret!

Scuse me for interrupting?

Clegg: Fynn isnt here young lad. Whats the matter?

Alaster: How can we help you?

Commoner: Aye Mr Barret Clegg Hawke Sir! Reportin some problems sir. We needs help

Clegg: Problems, what kind of problems

Commoner: Where to start. First up theres some sort of attack going on at Reg Valom. and and dragons be sighted, a big flotilla of them

At this point Alaster called for those gathered to grab their dragon slayers

commoner: coming in from the sea. and you wont believe this

Clegg: there is more?

commoner: Savages! Gathering at their village with talks of an attack, in trammel. Savages moving out from their village in trammel sir!

Clegg: An attack at Reg Valom, Dragons at Minoc and Savages!!

Commoner: I need to find Mr Hawke

Alaster: Where did you say?

Clegg: Nathan left, but maybe we can still help you

Commoner: Minoc dragons, Reg valom attack

alaster: we go there

Esca: i guess we have to decide, where to go

commoner: and savages in trammel at their base

Aron: Is that 3 attacks? by blessed chance we have 3 brave warriors here today

it seems aron had forgotten that 4 of the candidates were in attendance

Esca: to show our leadership skills

commoner: I must run and warn folk

At this point I received an urgent message from some family members close to the britain border and had to leave. Good luck and safe travels to all those affected in these areas. May the light illumine you all.

Before I left I did note that while the candidates bickered about which location to check Aron took some charge and suggested they scout all the areas to better decide where the main bulk of the gathered forces would be needed.

Escaflowne was interested only in Minoc what with it being in his own backyard. The other candidates seeemed not to take much charge.

However without knowing what happened out on the battlefield, things may have been very different.

QA5+ – EM Emile Layne

November 11, 2011 By: Kayne Category: Ask & Answer, Europa News

Six Questions and Answers to give an insight to:

EM Emile Layne

Elder Event Moderator, Ultima Online

When you first started what impression did you have about doing events, is it harder or easier than you expected? Did you get nervous and do you still get nervous?

When I first started as an EM I didn’t expect to get as much freedom as we do. As EMs we are both writers and actors, I expected the acting part to be larger. I’m glad we get a lot of room to write our own stories as well, I really enjoy that.

It’s been a while since I was nervous about an event. But for my first event… I was physically sweating, I was so nervous.

What is it like working with the EM team and Mesanna?

It’s great! One of the best teams I’ve worked with. We all help each other out and with EMs from all over the world, there’s always somebody to bounce ideas around.

Mesanna is the champion of UO! I don’t know anybody who knows more and does more for the game than she does. It’s great to work with somebody who is so passionate and devoted to what they do.

What do you think about the structure of the program?

I think it works well. Not much to add here I’m afraid.

Can you describe the training you have to go through to become an EM?

In most cases it’s a three-part process.

First the new EM has to familiarize themselves with our tools and policies. They get trained and tested on this before they move on to the next step.

The second step is what we call ‘shadowing’. The new EM tags along and helps out the current EMs as they setup and run their events. Usually the new EM also gets to play a character in the events they shadow.

The final step is when the new EM is assigned to a shard. They introduce themselves to the shard and together with the residing EM they start running their own events.

If someone wanted to join the program, what would be the first thing you would say to them?

Being an EM is great fun and we can always use a good storyteller. So if you think you’ve got what it takes; send your application to Mesanna.

Would you like to have a little more control over the player base at events?

Europa’s players are usually very well behaved. So the times I feel the need for more control are rare. Sometimes at large events though, the wall of spam can get pretty thick and the narrative is lost. That’s when I wished I had like a shut-everybody-up-now!-button.
