Corpsecrank’s Melee Weapons Skill Guide

This guide will train you from 0 to 120 in your choice of Swordsmanship, Fencing, or Mace Fighting.

Supplies List:

  1. Plenty of clean bandages
  2. A few full suits of GM+ crafted armor made from Dull Copper with 70 in each resistance and high durability. (Avoid Reflect Physical Damage)
  3. Greater Cure potions, Greater Healing potions, Greater Strength potions, Greater Agility potions, Invisibility potions, Total Refresh potions, Orange Petals, Petals from The Rose of Trinsic.
  4. A piece of equipment with Nightsight such as a ring, bracelet etc.
  5. Any weapon sold by an NPC in town that is fast and uses the desired skill.
  6. Optional: Powerscrolls for desired skills, Scrolls of Transcendence for desired skills, Scrolls of Alacrity for desired skills.

Part 1: Buying Skill

You will want to begin by finding an NPC in town to train you in your skills of choice. You will want to buy as much skill as you can from the first NPC you find that offers training in the desired skill but you will want to keep checking for another NPC that trains the same skill because the first NPC you find may not train you to the maximum amount you are able to buy. Check 3 to 5 NPCs until none will offer you training in the desired skills.

Part 2: Preparing Supplies

If you haven’t already gathered the items on the list you will want to do so now. Do not carry all of your supplies on you the entire time. You will want to stock up well on the consumable items in the list and store them in the bank for easy access as you need them. I would suggest leaving them right in the top most layer of the bank so you can say bank and grab what you need quickly.

Make sure you have no less than 3 to 5 full suits of armor to use for training in. You may die and lose a suit or you might break a piece or 2 you never know so keeping a few suits on hand is a good idea.

Make sure something your wearing has Nightsight. You don’t want to be left in the dark with no way to see what is going on and when you are using a training suit it is easy to forget this part. Avoid being caught off guard by a sudden change from day to night or entering a dungeon or other dark area by double checking this before you leave to train.

If you are also training in Parrying you will want to include a good Shield in your suit made from Dull Copper also and crafted by a GM+ skilled player.

If you plan to use a Scroll of Alacrity only carry 1 at a time on you and use it as soon as possible to avoid losing it.

If you plan to use Power Scrolls use them in town or your house before you leave to train.

Keep any Scrolls of Transcendence you plan to use in the bank and use them to finish your skill. If you have the scrolls figure out how much skill the scrolls will give you towards your skill in total. Train your skill leaving enough room to use the scrolls to finish it. The higher your skill gets the harder it is to get a gain in it so using the scrolls to finish off the last bit will end up saving you the most amount of work.

Part 3: X-70 Skill

Before you head out make sure you have that Nightsight equipped. Go to the bank and get the following items from your supplies.

  1. 250 clean bandages
  2. 10 of each petal type
  3. 20 Greater Cure potions
  4. 50 Greater Healing potions (If you have decent healing skill you only need 5)
  5. 5 of each of the other potions in your bank
  6. One of the NPC bought weapons
  7. Optional: 1 Scroll of Alacrity for each desired skill your training.

You will start by hunting Ettins in Ilshenar. The map below will guide you to your target destination.

Ettin Arena

You can take any public Moongate to Honesty in Ilshenar. From the gate follow the path marked in white from the Moongate to the target destination.

In this area you will find Ettins spawning quite plentifully. The best method for training is to use a fast weapon that does the lowest amount of damage. You will start off by killing some Ettins with your NPC bought weapon but you will want to be looking on corpses of fallen enemies for other weapons that use the desired skill and are fast with low damage. For Fencing you would look for a kryss or other light weapon. For Swordsmanship you want to look for plain katanas and if they have Swing Speed Increase those are the best to use. (Avoid Damage Increase and Hit Spell such as Hit Fireball, Hit Lighning Ect.)

The more damage you do with each hit the lesser amount of hits the enemy can take before it dies. For the purpose of training you want to hit the enemy as many times as you can before you kill it so that you get as many chances at skill gain per enemy as possible.  This is also where those Greater Agility potions come into play. When you drink one your dexterity goes up and so does your weapons swing rate. This means you can swing faster and gain skill faster.

If you get into trouble with a Paragon or other nasty creature you can use your petals to avoid poison and boost your strength. This will greatly improve your survival chance. You can also drink an Invisibility potion and run and hide to try to shake your pursuers. If you get poisoned drink a Greater Cure potion and then eat one of those Orange Petals to avoid being poisoned a second time.  You can also stack a Greater Strength potion with the Petals from The Rose of Trinsic for a super boost to your strength. If an enemy drains your stamina and you cannot run to get away you can drink a Total Refresh potion to refill your stamina and flee. Keep these tactics in mind while hunting and you should have a pretty easy time training.

So what does an Ettin look like? Here is a picture of the target:

Ettin

Reaching 70 skill fighting Ettins will not take long. Once you are done head back to the bank and follow the next section.

Part 4: 70-90

Supplies you will need:

  1. 250 clean bandages
  2. 10 of each petal type
  3. 20 Greater Cure potions
  4. 50 Greater Healing potions (If you have decent healing skill you only need 5)
  5. 5 of each of the other potions in your bank
  6. One of the NPC bought weapons or any weapons you found during the last section.
  7. Optional: 1 Scroll of Alacrity for each desired skill your training.

For this section we will be heading over to the Spirituality Moongate and from there to the Harpy Nest. You guessed it we will be fighting Harpies this time. The map below will guide you to the target destination.

Harpy Nest

Once you have your supplies head out. Follow the path marked in white in the map above. Once you reach the Harpy Nest you will want to avoid the Stone Harpies. To do this you can lure them away from the Harpy Nest. You will probably end up dragging a swarm of regular Harpies along with them. That is OK what you can do is drag the Stone Harpies way off then kill any normal Harpies that followed you out of the nest. After you kill them make sure you run off and go through a gate or cave entrance and then return to the nest making sure to avoid accidentally luring the Stone Harpies back to it. Once the nest is clear and free of Stone Harpies you are free to train on normal Harpies for a while.

Here are some pictures of the Stone Harpies and normal Harpies that spawn in the nest. On the left is a Stone Harpy on the Right is a Harpy. You will find 2 Stone Harpies in the nest that must be eliminated before training.

Stone HarpyHarpy

Once you reach 90 skill you will want to head back to the bank and gear up for the final segment of your training.

Part 5: 90-120

Supplies you will need:

  1. 250 clean bandages
  2. 10 of each petal type
  3. 20 Greater Cure potions
  4. 50 Greater Healing potions (If you have decent healing skill you only need 5)
  5. 5 of each of the other potions in your bank
  6. One of the NPC bought weapons
  7. Optional: 1 Scroll of Alacrity for each desired skill your training.

For this section we will be heading to Covetous Dungeon in Felucca. You will be in a PVP rule set so keep in mind that other players may freely attack you at any time while your training in this section. Not to worry you will not have much to lose while doing this. Insure any good training weapons you found and insure your nightsight item. The rest of the stuff you have is easily replaceable so do not worry about wasting gold to insure it. It is probably cheaper to just replace it in the long run.

The map below will guide you to the dungeon entrance. We will be taking the public moongate to Minoc this time.

Minoc Moongate

The Minoc Moongate is the closest moongate to the dungeon entrance. It is a bit of a run to the dungeon from the gate but this is the closest we can get without a run to the dungeon entrance so if you have to travel by foot this is the way to do it. I would also suggest traveling here by foot because you will be in felucca and could be jumped by a PK in the off chance one is sitting at the entrance of the dungeon. Believe me it can happen. If you run up to the dungeon on foot you will not be caught off guard like you would be coming in through a gate. You will also already be moving so if you see a player with a red name just keep on moving and avoid the hassle.

Once you reach the dungeon head on in but be careful because the entrance contains fire traps almost as soon as you step inside. Do not step on those traps they will deal a bit of damage which we want to avoid just in case there happens to be someone inside the dungeon already.

The map below will help you determine which area you should be in. You want to stay in the blue areas.

Covetous

From the entrance to the first bend in the corridor are fire traps scattered about as I mentioned above so try to avoid those.

You will want to stay in the blue area this is where our target spawns. So what is the target this time? Stone Harpies. Why not fight them in the safety of Ilshenar at the Harpy Nest? There simply is not enough of them at the nest to train a skill within a reasonable amount of time. So if you really want to you can go spend the next couple of weeks back at the nest or you can spend a day here and finish your skill.

The Stone Harpies will spawn abundantly in the blue areas of the map. You will be able to kill them without any time waiting for them to spawn so raising skill here will go as fast as possible.

Remember to leave room for any Scrolls of Transcendence if you plan to use them.

If a player with a red name enters the dungeon there are 2 ways to flee. If they come in from the rear marked as Exit in red on the map you can flee out the front marked as Entrance in blue on the map. If they come in from the Entrance flee out the rear Exit. Once you are outside you can use a rune to recall or flee directly right of the dungeon entrance to town and call guards. Vesper is a very short distance from the Entrance if you head directly right on your screen. If you head out the rear Exit you will have to recall with a rune because you will be enclosed by mountains. If you have no rune then drink one of the Invisibility potions and run off screen to shake the PK.

Good luck and happy training but above all have fun!
