Trouble at Destard – Recap of the 05/30 EM Balthazar Event

June 01, 2014 By: Kylie Kinslayer Category: Atlantic News

Atlantic Shard badge

It all started with an announcement via the Herald System, there was something happening at Destard. That is generally enough to send shivers down a lot of spines when you take into consideration the type of inhabitants it holds, but the rallying nature of the news held a greater sense of urgency than normal. Some adventures decided to survey the area prior to the designated time to rally and were greeted by Underworld Sentries, Spies and a Guardian who enjoyed talking trash.

Underworld Spies and Guardian

Once word spread about the dire situation the number of those willing to fight swelled quickly. A quick meeting let us all know what we were facing. The Dragons now have a leader who has his own rallying cry. What is his cry? How is he uniting all the Dragon Clans against the different races of Britannia? “No longer will we be relegated to the Underground World. We will kill everything on 2 legs and take over the above ground world. We will move against the Humans, Elves and Gargoyles!” This news did make more than a few at the meeting begin crawling around on all fours in attempts to avoid the slaughter, but it only enraged the majority of the crowd. “To arms!” rang out. “To Destard” and “Leave no Dragon alive!” could be heard as countless Britannians jumped through the gates, not knowing if they would ever lay eyes on their loved ones again, but fully aware the fight had to be fought… and won.

When we arrived the Underworld followers attacked immediately. There was massive death off the bat. The bodies littered the ground, but they were dragon corpses. The bodies of Underworld Spies, Guardians and Servants of the Underworld covered the grass. The crowd began to get a smug air about them as more and more fell. They were confident, maybe even a little bit too confident. That borderline arrogance was short lived however. Once the Lord of the Underworld made his appearance the corpses which covered the ground began to be of fallen comrades. Fire engulfed everything in sight and cries of death echoed off the nearby mountain so loudly that it muffled the sounds of battle. Somehow, some way, the Underworld Lord was beaten back and the battle was won. When you looked into the faces of those in the crowd you could see the look of satisfaction, the look of pride in a job well done, but you could also catch a glimpse of the look that indicates most everyone knew this was not the end… just the beginning.

Election Night in Yew – A Drama in Red

September 15, 2013 By: Kylie Kinslayer Category: Atlantic News

Yew Election

Often times election evenings come and go with very little hoopla. Constituents and Candidates settle in for a long night of watching the results unfold while they take a pause and try to catch their breath from a long, hard fought campaign season. For the majority of the races that was the case. But it was not the case when it came to the tightly contested race in Yew.

The night started off innocently enough, Candidates were out in force in Bucs Den pressing the flesh for a few last minute votes. A carnival type atmosphere hung in the air while people went from place to place seeing what fun events the Candidates had provided for them. However that jovial nature would soon turn in an instant. Those who were paying close attention could feel the intensity begin to swell. They watched as the easy going nature shifted to desperation, despair and anger. Yes, anger.

What could almost be described as a riot broke out at the voting stone in Yew. Empath Abbey was almost overrun with Dragons and Gargoyle wings being strategically placed in front of the Stone making it inaccessible for people to cast those crucial last minute ballots. Each side pointing fingers at the other and supporters of each side shouting unpleasant and rude things at the other side. Supporters of one side accusing the other side of buying votes, the other side vehemently denying the allegations. The tension was so thick everyone in attendance had to think a Civil War was about to break out for the Governorship of Yew. Things became so volatile the office of Granting Majority Selection, or “GMs” for short, dispatched not one, but two of it’s representatives dressed in red robes to the Stone in order to observe the voting process and protect the integrity of the vote along with the outcome of the election. The mere presence of the GMs observers quelled the majority of the situation, but still a few hardliners persisted and tried to ignite the situation again… until King Blackthorn appeared that is.

King Blackthorn’s unscheduled arrival coupled with his words quieted the crowd rather quickly. He called both of the frontrunners to stand before him and asked them to shake hands and part as equals. Once they obliged he reminded them even though the election was over the work had just begun. Before he made his depature the King left absolutely no doubt he had the utmost faith in both of the frontrunners and also left no doubt as to who is in charge as he said, “I have every confidence in *both participants*. And remember, I am the King, if there is a problem, I have the power to fix it.”

The first Conseil du Roi with the newly elected or reelected Governors will be held on Sunday September 29th at 8pm EST. Judging from some of the parting shots some Governors made towards other Governors, it should be more than interesting. The situation between Jhelom and Britain could potentially be the stuff nightmares are made of….. Long live the King.

EM Taweret – Atlantic’s Newest EM

July 15, 2013 By: Kylie Kinslayer Category: Atlantic News

EM Taweret

With a polite curtsey Atlantics newest EM was introduced to the mob that is Atlantic. She described herself as a Mom, a reader who devours books and as someone who has been playing Ultima Online since 2001. She went on to say she has not been much of a Roleplayer in the past but EM Bennu is helping her along in that area. EM Taweret honestly seems to be looking forward to hosting events for everyone, including those who call Fel home. It is no secret how the majority of events in Fel turn out, most everyone knows they end with mayhem and/or griefing. Yet she even wants to give those in Fel another shot at demonstrating they can “behave” long enough to have an event that even reds can attend. Some would call her an eternal optimist for that undertaking, while others would say she is simply trying to be as inclusive as she can be and trying to make things fun for everyone regardless of their playstyle. I would say she seems to be both.

EM Taweret will be hosting some events in the daytime hours and some during the late night hours for those who are unable to make the prime time events. In closing she mentioned she felt lucky to be an EM, especially on Atlantic, but the initial reaction of those in attendance seemed to show that we are lucky to have someone as friendly, patient and inclusive as her.

Welcome EM Taweret, may you be with us for years to come.

EM Fiction a fly on the wall of Castle Blackthorn…

October 07, 2012 By: Kylie Kinslayer Category: Atlantic News

The smell of boiling soup had attracted a small fly into the newly quarried and built castle Blackthorn, the fly had taken its fill and now sat digesting on the wall of a room two two people within… voices were heard.

“I really do not advise this course of action M’Lord.” Dupre looked into the eyes of the dark sullen man across the hearth. He knew his attempts to guide the man who was going to be the new sovereign would need to be subtle.

“Honestly Dupre, you should have known better than to cast her aside in the first place. She could have been your greatest ally and this insurrection could have been easily thwarted.”

“Her methods are…” Dupre scoffed.

“And yours?”

“That is not fair.”

“Fair? You are a proud fool Dupre, a hero and a patriot to be sure, but a fool just the same.” Lord Blackthorn studied the proud paladin, wondering if he would perceive the insult as personal or sarcastic banter.

“I am my own man.”

“As am I.” Blackthorn stared coldly into Dupre’s eyes hoping he would get the point, the decision had been made.
Lord Blackthorn knocked three times loudly on the table and the guard outside opened the door.

“Show our Lady Amandine in.” Blackthorn directed.

“She’s here now?!” Dupre stammered.

As the guard saluted in obedience Lady Amandine brushed past him in an impolite flourish, she smelled of flowers and tall grasses which put the guard’s thoughts elsewhere.

Dupre had turned his back and faced the fire, while Lord Blackthorn stood waiting with a smile and embraced her as a friend.

“You two are going to have to kiss and make up.” Blackthorn stated without emotion.

“M’Lord Blackthorn, it is good that you have come home. The people have rallied and begun to look toward hope and unity once more.” Lady Amandine said with a curtsy of respect and admiration.

“I entrust that you have found the beds here tight and warm?”

“Absolutely, I prefer the…”

“She has been staying HERE?!” Dupre turned to face them with a look of being terribly offended.

“Of course, I invited her. She had to have somewhere to stay, you stripped her of everything, and Ill not have a hero and a patriot… or a fool… sleeping in the street.” Blackthorn raised his eyebrow knowing that Dupre would grasp the threat as it was laid.

“Lady Amandine, let us end this feud. The factions that have developed within your ranks are over and done with. I give you back your titles, lands, a full pardon and most of all your command over your knights… not that they ever followed anyone else.” Lord Blackthorn crossed his arms and for the first time finally felt as if he was stepping into this new role well.

“Britannia needs all three of us, I see that now. It will be nice to be able to walk the streets in daylight again.”

Both Lady Amandine and Lord Blackthorn looked to Dupre who stood by the fire.

“I suppose this is where I kiss and make up?” Dupre looked stern.

Lady Amandine licked her lips and pouted her lips slightly in sarcastic preparation.

“I may have been, harsh…” Dupre looked to Blackthorn, “…and foolish.”

“That is good enough Lord Dupre.” Danica stated with a nod of respect.

“What will you do with your knights Lady Commander?” the soon to be crowned King crossed his arms.

“Protect King and Country Your Majesty.” Amandine bowed her head to Lord Blackthorn with a curl of a smile on her lips and a slight tear in her eye.

“I meant more in detail, there are many divisions and wounds which will require tending.” The two Lords both looked to her.

“Promotions are due, and this is the season of new beginnings for us all.” Amandine nodded and knew she had much to think about. “I will take my leave M’Lords.”

Lady Amandine turned to leave and stepped toward the door, but was caught on the shoulder by Lord Blackthorn’s left hand.

“One moment Danica.”

Blackthorn took two steps toward Dupre and unsheathed the Sword Caliburn from Dupre’s belt.

“This sword is traditionally carried by the monarch of Britannia, as it was by my dear friend… but alas I am a middling swordsman. So for now, I ask that you carry it for me, knowing that when you wield it, it is for me and your sword is mine.”

“M’Lord Blackthorn, didn’t you know? My sword, my knights, my blood, my body, my very life is yours…” Danica said with reverence before her own personal hero.

“Was that a come on?” Dupre said sarcastically then returned his face to the fire when they both ignored him.
Lord Blackthorn nodded to her and she stepped out of the room.

“…” Dupre opened his mouth to talk but was instantly interrupted.

“Dupre, on your way out send up Lord Wellings and Lord Raymond. We have matters to discuss.”

Dupre obliged with an air of defeat and subservience. He closed the door softly as he left the room, pausing only to smash the fly with his gloved palm against the wall.

Hall Of Players – New Location

September 23, 2012 By: Kylie Kinslayer Category: Atlantic News

The HALL OF PLAYERS Has Moved

The Hall Of Players has moved to Malas, 40nx24w, on the road south out of Luna, across from the Brigands Camp. The Hall can be reached by house teleporter from the Blue Crane Portal (see picture on the more information link below). There is also a rune to the Hall atop the green chest out front at the Book Store.

The move allowed us to rearrange exhibits in a less cluttered-looking display. (The old Hall was beginning to look like a warehouse for storing stolen goods). So we now have more room for new exhibits.

If you want your character to be exhibited in the Hall Of Players, drop item(s) with the character’s name on them &/or a book about your character into the mailbox. We’ll make your exhibit and enter your character into the Book Of Names.

The Roof is reserved for exhibits honoring Ultima Online players who have died in real life, although names of those honoring the dead may also be listed as appearing on the Roof.

We welcome players from all shards.

Join us and you’ll be joining an illustrious group. The BOOK OF NAMES is at the entrance, “…being a List of all Characters Named in the Hall Of Players and their Location by Floor.”

EM Tiberies Event, Friday July 6, 8pm Eastern

July 03, 2012 By: Kylie Kinslayer Category: Atlantic News

There will be an EM Tiberies Event this Friday, July 6, 8pm Eastern. It will begin at the Honor Moongate in Ilshenar. The Meer Eternal known as Ardranath has asked you to come there for a demonstration and a warning.

This event will be called “The Awakening: The Echo Game.”

This event will work differently than many of my previous events.

Normally my style involves a fair amount of guidance and hand-holding. I like running events that way and am not repudiating my usual style, but for a change of pace this one will be something close to the opposite extreme. There’ll be clues which you will follow, or at least try to follow. I’m not even going to create or designate a chat channel to use. It will be in your best interests to help each other along.

Let’s see what happens.

The event is posted on the Town Criers.

Recap – What Doesn’t Die & Neon Knights

June 20, 2012 By: Kylie Kinslayer Category: Atlantic News

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. With that in mind I thought I would cover an event without too many of my words getting in the way…..

We began,

How would we be able to help him in decoding the signals? Yusef spoke of a man who was an expert on Golems and all forms of mechanical life and asked if we would find him.

With that the Professor gated us to Krett’s last known residence. Immediately upon arrival some in the mob found a clue to his current whereabouts. It seemed Krett was holed up in the Mushroom Cave in Ilshenar. Would we encounter any resistance along the way? Early indications from scouts the evening before had already answered that question.

What would happen when the dreaded Paragon Gargoyle Stomper ran across the gang of travelers?

Would we be able to overcome the beating and find Krett? Yes.

Would that be the end of the violence? When have travelers assisting Professor Yusef in any capacity ever been that lucky?

After much fighting, we were able to get Krett out of the Mushroom Cave alive. Understanding they were dispatched to kill him Krett promised to assist Professor Yusef immediately. Before thanking us for saving him, he posed a question to us all.

All in attendance were left to ponder and await Professor Yusef’s return for another round. However prior to the Professor’s arrival a lone apparent suicidal Neon Knight approached. Well… as suicidal as a Neon Blue Skeleton can be.

The Neon Knight called for reinforcements but the sheer number of and skill of the volunteers there made rather quick work of them. The good Professor showed up as the last one hit the floor.

Equipped with his Krett approved newly adjusted detection device buckler, we shoved off to the entrance of Ver Lor Reg. Many apologies to you here, but the only pictures from the initial battle would be from that dreaded monochrome screen. It appears Exodus Necromancers like the taste of Kinslayer flesh as they kept feasting on it repeatedly.

In honesty I missed what seemed like an epic battle at the edge of the desert. Neon Blue Exodus Golems, Neon Blue Exodus Grizzles complete with acid pools of equipment blaze and death awaited those folks who were able to continue on at that time. I can only imagine the bloodbath that ensued.

The Professor pushed on and continued to take readings as he led us to Exodus Dungeon where we were met by not only Exodus Minion Lords and Captains et al, but also the dreaded Paragon Exodus Dragon….

Battle weary, exhausted and bank accounts drained a little, the followers were glad when the final enemy dropped to the ground with a resounding thud. They eagerly awaited gates back to The Lycaeum to find out what the Professor had learned. Based on all the readings he took ….

Professor Yusef also believes that is why Exodus wanted the city of Ver Lor Reg. He never had any interest in enslaving the Gargoyles again; only in rebuilding himself. One can only imagine what evil Exodus intends to unleash if or when he accomplishes that feat.

Until next time, safe travels and rest up. There are more battles are around the corner.
